Welcome to my Let's Build series on Space Engineers, where I take you along for the ride as I craft Workshop-ready Aircraft, Spacecraft, Miners, Utility Ships, Rovers, Missiles, Turrets, and other contraptions in Space Engineers!
In this series we put together the base components of an atmospheric miner, starting with the internal components (Episode 1), moving on to armoring (Episode 2), painting (Episode 3), basic Control Panel management and hotbar setup (Episode 4), intermediate control automation with Timer Blocks (Episode 5), and advanced automation with scripting (Episode 6).

I think you can use bulkiness to add personality to a ship if it's something like a mining ship that would make sense since it's supposed to be bulky in order to hold as much ore as possible

Very true, but bulkiness isn't necessarily desireable in all cases. When you're building a ship this close to the line of "doesn't work", then... probably best to keep armor minimal.

Great videos. I recommend shortening your intro - far too long. But the video itself is awesome.

I 100% agree... which is why all of my videos after this series had shorter intros. :) Think the longest I do now is 10 seconds or so?

@@odysseygaming214 Awesome good on you. I thought you might have, but it was really late when I was watching and I fell asleep :p I'm going to try building this ship today, it was otherwise a great video so thanks for giving me some ideas! Something I've always found difficult with the mining ship (I built splitsies drop pod one) is that it's easy to lose control as you spiral down to dig. Not because your ship gets heavy, but I'll just be drilling a spiral and my ship goes wonky, banks sideways and lands into a hole. It's hard to regain control of. Do you know any way to prevent this? Would the gyroscopes help, or is it just me getting disoriented as I dig deeper down?

@@zakman246 I know exactly what you're talking about. Fly up a bit and spin in a circle, you'll see that you start twisting to the right or left, depending on which way you do that. Use Q and E a bit to keep yourself level, and take it say a quarter turn at a time, and you'll be just fine.

@@odysseygaming214 Ahh okay. So over time as I dig down it's happening because my ship is gradually going off centre to the point where it messes up, so I just need to keep a tab on it and Q+E to keep it level? Got it. The other thing I find hard is that when this happens, the camera will lock into first person instead of third (presumably due to lack of room for third person), and then suddenly I can't even see my surroundings and it gets even harder to get out of that mess.

@@zakman246 Three fixes I've used. The first is design. I believe this ship can drill straight down while empty, which eliminates the need for spinning altogether. The second is to rely on your gymbal instead of your eyes. One is correct, the other can get disoriented. The third is to Ctrl+Right Click to change your camera angle so that you're looking straight down the hole, and there's room for the camera.
