This new Takom kit is not great, not terrible 😬😬😬
Is it worth the affordable price? I'd say so, but you have to be ready to put in more work than you'd have to with a higher quality model such as the Tamiya offering.

Not sure what I am more jealous of; 1. Fruil tracks costing $39 2. eBay stuff arriving in a week 3. NightShift build skills.

@@TheModelGuy What?? If you buy them from Friul or in Canada? Btw, a nice alternative to Friul is Masterclub, Dominomodel started stocking those instead of Friul, and they are great. Instead of fiddling with wire now its some resin pins, and tbh i like them a lot. If you want to order at them, the shipping price to Canada is (normally) 25-30 € (i've asked a guy who works there) and the price for Canada is calculated without tax, so if you do [price] / 1.21 normally you get the correct price in euros :)

I've been building models since I was about 7 years old. Many were well beyond my age level at the time. It was always disheartening when I'd save up my pocket money for who knows how long, buy a kit I wanted, build it and only to later have my father throw them out as trash. He did that with EVERYTHING artistic I used to make be it models, short stories I wrote, or pictures/posters I'd draw and color. He would get upset when I bought a model kit because to him, they were nothing but toys, and apparently at age 7, I was too old for toys... This was the kind of man who thought if (by the time I reached the age of eleven) I hadn't made up my mind on which career/job I wanted as an adult, I was slacking. He thought my sketchings/drawings were also a huge waste of paper and time. Time I could have been using to find my first job... at age 9... Just because he had dropped out of school at the age of 15 or 16 because he wanted to work instead, he thought I should also do the same, it seemed. All it did was bury my creativity. It's a shame that it did because the teachers who loved having me in class are those who actually saw glimpses of that. I really do not understand his logic in trying to stamp out my imagination. I guess that, sadly, there are so many people who are unable to grasp the fact that models are NOT toys. Now as an adult, I buy high end model ships whenever I can. They helped keep me sane when I spent the better part of a year in hospital. My wife (then girlfriend) encouraged/encourages my model building. I have a fleet of around 50 1/700 scale ships.

Your dad was a sad asshole, so sorry to hear that friend. Glad you are enjoying your adulthood. Thanks for the heads up, I checked my Takom Porsche Jagdtiger, especially the front of the casemate, it didn't fit of course, I simply sanded the bottom edge and dry fitted as I went along...no problem, slotted in to place looks fine, worked for me, I also fitted a sprue brace from side to side internally to give the roof a bit more strength under the front joint where the casemate joins it as it bowed slightly.

While I agree with your comments about the amount of flash and size of the seam lines, I disagree about the issues you had with the front plate on the super structure. I agree it is a terrible design, but after a few minutes of looking at it, a lot of swearing, and a bit of brute force, it did fit, with no need to make any modification. In saying that, keep up the good work. Your channel is helping a lot of us mediocre modelers to get better. Cheers from New Zealand.

Years ago I ran across a tip that I found very useful. After removing the parts from the box, I put them in a sink or tub. Next, I add some dishwashing soap. I slosh the pieces about for a few minutes, rinse them, and set them aside to dry. This removes the mold release agent that is applied to the die so that the plastic parts release more easily. This agent can interfere with the glue making the joint less secure.

I've touched that tank in real life. The damage to the front is scary, like someone took an ice cream scoop to a block of clay. I think they were deeper than you drilled them, but you can only drill so deep on plastic. the hull is not actually 9 inches thick. Also there are dozens of tiny shallow thumb print sized dents on the upper part of the right hand side where someone opened fire on it with a .50cal tho honestly i doubt those could be seen in scale. Some of the damage might have been done to it after it was captured for testing. I couldn't say what tho. The left drive gear was also hit and ruined, but as you want it in working shape you should leave that out.

This Jagdtiger is now at the NACC at Ft. Benning in GA. The gun wasn't taken out by a shell hit btw. I have been on and inside the JT in question. There is a hit to the left hand final drive the immobilized the vehicle. The recoil hydraulics were drained and the gun fired, essentially slamming the gun rearward thus destroying it. Also, there is a heavy hit to the lower glacis below the drivers position. As an aside, Aberdeen Proving Grounds lost their entire macro collection back in 2012 and the vehicles were split up between three different military bases. Ft Benning got the tanks and TDs, Ft. Sill in Oklahoma got the artillery pieces, and I can't remember which base got the balance. Back in the 90's Aberdeen has been given a huge chunk of money to preserve their collection, but had done nothing but paint 3 vehicles by 2011. The also moved the tanks that were at Ft. Knox to Ft. Benning as well, since the US Armor School was moved there. The NACC has a frankenTiger, this JT, a KT, 3 Panthers (including the only Panther II known to have been built), the last remaining T28/95, 2 T29's, and a T30. There is also a Soviet JS-3 and a whole host of other Russian vehicles.

Wow!!!! Excellent build. Lots of work to get those bugs out, flash and fit. Your work is amazing. The takom Jadgetiger, watching your build was eye opening. Tons of work in corrections. I have the Tamiya Jagdetigers as well Wow what a difference .....disappointed in the blitz build there . But your video on the build was worth saving , amazing work truly outstanding approach. Thank you!!! Encore!!! Big fan of the Jadgetiger Cheers👍👍👍👍👍👍

I would really love to see your hand at some warships or planes too at some stage in the future. Also I really do like your channel, fun informative, clear and well presented. You have an excellent structure to you production and balance the detail between building and showcasing. Love the fact music is kept to a minimum too. Regards. Darius, Melbourne Australia
