Yes, the yard help man was here four hours this morning tidying up the big surrounding yard for the first time this season. I'll rake up the excess grass clips after they dry a bit and use them in mulch. I'd worked a few hours yesterday, trimming back schrubs and tree branches and loaded all my mess onto a tarp to haul it to the burn pit across the road. ' Twisted my ankle stepping off the berm and cracked my knee. 😢 Nothing serious but I opted to rest it today. And to wear my sturdy work boots when I'm working henceforth! 😊

we have 5 acres, 3 are full of oak trees and about 2 are open fields which we mow. Everyone's property connects by a walking path through the woods so we have 70 miles of walking path just outside our back door. Like with you it's A LOT of work but so worth it. Good week to you!

Jersey here. We’re on a similar climate line to Brittany and like you we have been in the garden for the past 2 days, lifting, shifting, humping, dumping!! The new fences are up (disclaimer, had help there), the gutters have been cleaned and the patios power washed. Sadly we lost a few plants in the storm. We’ve moved a few others around and planted cuttings that have been gifted. Had to make a few new purchases but like you the priority this year is tidying. It felt great to do ‘manual work’ however we’re about 4 years off retirement so it’s back to the desk jobs tomorrow! C’est la vie 😊

We also have lots to clean up; not from fallen trees, but from my husband trimming low hanging branches so he can mow under them. Most of it we're saving for firewood and kindling. There's lots of kindling!....Carla H.

Hi Jane and Mike. Yes, best to get it done now before the heat arrives. Garden tasks are definitely a good workout. I've been in my garden all afternoon, staining fences, weeding and cutting the grass etc. Still not finished, but as we know, the good thing about retirement is having the time to continue another day. You make a great team. Also, you've given me an idea with regards to grass seeds. That's another job I've lined up now. 😆 Thanks to you both for giving us another lovely tour of your garden. It looked so beautiful on camera. 🤗🪴🌻🍀

Hello Jane, Mike, and the Furry Girls! After watching you tackle your garden, I really want to tackle mine. Unfortunately, I am 400 miles away from it and don't know exactly when I will get an opportunity to go and do some work on it. My front garden is primarily perrenials and I have removed the grass in favor of moss and rocks, but I will need to put grass back in for selling the house - wasteful, I know, but can't be helped. Not everyone is on board with removing lawn. I am itching to get started, but I will have to hire much of the work out. In the meantime I can watch you and envy the two of you working in the garden in the spring sunshine!

Well done, you two! Don't you wish the work went as fast as the sped-up version? Ha ha! I didn't do "real" gardening for two years because responsibilities took me away from home. Now it's weeding, landscaping where a tree was removed, transplanting "volunteer" plants that are springing up in unwanted places, digging out sunken pavers, etc. It's a bit overwhelming at the moment but it'll keep me out of trouble!

We have a major cleanup of downed trees going on also. My daughter and I purchased a battery operated chainsaw. It’s really helped. My son in law has a gas powered chainsaw for big jobs. We can handle this battery operated one much better. It’s a lot of work

Winter and short spring? Not this year. Down on the department 49 it is still really cold. A tip for grass seed. Mix with compost and dampen in a large bucket or bowl until it starts to germinate and then spread on area. It stops the seeds blowing away and stops the birds munching them. Roll on the warmer weather!

The sun seems to give a person lots of energy, doesn't it? Which is good, because with a yard this large, you will always have something to do. By the way, I love BBC movies, comedies (especially the older ones), and murder mysteries. The writing and acting is excellent. I think that "Good Neighbours" that I saw many years ago, influencd my decision to live the way that I do....minus the dandelion wine.

Good morning, We have had strong winds here in the Eastern Townships recently and like many, I have lots of broken branches to clear. I now use a Saker mini chainsaw which makes the job a lot easier. I don't know if they sell it in France, but thought to let you know in case.

We found out that a VPN is essential for traveling as well as at home. Too many people trying to access your phone/computer when you are out and about. Oh my gosh, your race against time is the exact same thing that we are experiencing here. Cold, windy , some rain/snow then the next day 70s. Then overnight 26. We are cleaning up trees and splitting firewood, in between garden preparation. It's a dash to finish before the final warm/hot weather arrives. We joke repeatedly about how moving the logs, and branches and splitting firewood and stacking it, heats us 4-6 times before it gets turned to ash, then removed to the composter.😊😅
