The Windows version of Bubble Bobble was compiled with GM 8.1 and was an amateur project to learn how to use GML. I felt very excited to see this version included in the comparison list with the original ARCADE, because I'm the author! ;) Thank you! .. somewhere I should still have the original scripts of that version.

This is one of my favorite games ever, and I must say you did a fantastic job on the Windows version! Definitely top-tier compared to other ports I've tried. -- If you still do coding and are interested in learning FPGA, we need someone to bring this amazing arcade game to the MiSTer open source project. Look it up if you have a little bit of time and join the classic gaming discord if you're interested =) There are many helping hands and resources there. "MiSTer Wiki" (google) and the Atari-forum are a good place to get information, also.

Shame Taito didn't let Ving do the port, their work on the Saturn Bubble Symphony was most impressive and arcade perfect. Sadly though I don't know of any outside of Japan ports Ving did. Matter of fact Ving worked on several ports for Taito and other companies on the PS1, Saturn, and FM Towns Marty, they are things of beauty.

I've never actually played the arcade version, although I did once watch someone play it in the arcade. I clearly remember him blowing bubbles and then easily jumping on top of them to ride them up to higher parts of the screen. He did it on the first try every time. When I later got the home versions for the C64 and Amiga, I thought they must have been lazy ports because it would often take me a dozen or more tries to jump on top of a bubble. 90% of the time it just popped, even though I jumped perfectly.

Some pretty good versions there although i think some were too different from the original game to count really. In any case, the GBA version (old mode) is actually really good fun despite the scrolling screen. The Amiga version was okay for the time too, although i still have memories of playing the arcade version at a local swimming pool.

Oh dear, Apple & Gameboy really made a mess of it! Mega Drive 15:20 & DS 18:20 is like Bubble Bobble on drugs! For me, it's hard to beat the Arcade or the Commodore 64 version, however, Playstation made the best more modern version. Sega & Gameboy just didn't have a clue what was going on to be honest. That Atari Lynx at the end is funny as feck!

I've always thought the 8-bit home computer versions were terribly slow to play and this video proves me right. I don't understand why the C64/Amstrad/Spectrum ports were so damn sleep-inducing, considering their counterparts on Master System and Game Gear were close to being arcade perfects. Oh well, I actually know why: japanese developers always were better than the wimps from US Gold/Imagine & co.

Les autres systèmes sont trop puissants, il est donc facile de faire une adaptation du jeu. For Playstation 1, the CD "Bubble Bobble also featuring Rainbow Islands" contains the classic and modern version of Rainbow Islands (Bubble Bobble II). There's a rumor going around that Taito is going to stop making console, PC, and arcade games and is just going to make shitty mobile games that they probably won't bring to the west...DAMNIT! FIRST HUDSON SOFT, THEN KONAMI, AND NOW TAITO!?
