With this one, for me, nothing tops the 2600 version. And it can't be said enough how important this game was to the industry and how it pretty much changed everyone's thinking in what kind of gameplay could be done in a video game.

I have found Pitfall for ZX spectrum. It was made in 2003 by I think Computer Emuzone. Never started it thou to see how it looks like...

Awesome video; great job!!! I didn't know that Pitfall came out on the MSX. The Commodore 64 version wins, as far as sound goes! The latest edition of Game Informer Magazine has a really great article at the end of it about how David Crane programmed Pitfall for the Atari 2600, and all the programming tricks he had to do to make it work, and fit on a 2600 cartridge!

+BlaineC1972 Agreed. The original pushed the 2600 to it's limits. These other versions were released on more powerful hardware, but they are more or less exactly the same. That is just lazy. They should have at the very least had improved graphics and sound, but all they did was use a slightly better color palette.

lol. Keep in mind that I make these videos as I go. often times I have 10 or more projects going at one time. And some projects may take weeks to complete. Coleco version is the best. Great sound and graphics and the controls look pretty cool (unlike de MSX that also has cool graphics but controls seem to look choppy). I expected more in the C64 version. Anyway, the Atari 2600 version is still my favorite! The classic one!

The Coleco and MSX versions look identical. Hmm. I never got the greatness of this game back then. I'd played Spelunker before I played this. Anyway, I grew up with the Atari 8-bit, so I'm partial to that version.

I liked the sound on the Commodore & Coleco better, but the sound effects on the 2600 & 800 are less irritating. The colors on the MSX & Coleco are way too bright. It's supposed to be a dark jungle, after all.

Pitfall was pretty much the SAME on ALL PLATFORMS. Not too much difference between the 2600/Colecovision/C-64 versions. Why did Activision even bother??

I succeeded to start it! :D And it looks and plays awful... :D It is on Spanish language and it was obviously made in basic. It crashes when you lose a life. Your sprite is always directed to the right whether you walk to the right or to the left. :) I will try to post a video response when I figure out how to record it in Fuse Spectrum emulator in Ubuntu...

Walking and jumping in a video game at the time was a new concept at the time. Consider it the granddaddy of platformers. I didn't grow up in the days of Atari (I'm gonna be 23 in August) but I refuse to ignore the impact that Pitfall had on gaming, despite its simplicity. On the surface it's walking and jumping, but that's where your imagination comes in. You're running for your life through a perilous jungle with danger lurking around every corner, finding treasure wherever you can and hoping to make it home alive and with riches beyond your wildest dreams

Because the game was designed for Atari hardware from the bottom up, and everything else is playing catch-up to 'emulate' the natural Atari look. Same thing with Bruce Lee and Elektraglide.

The graphics on the 800/5200 look better. Just compare the screens. The Atari has more detail to the background graphics. Not that the C64 wasn't just as capable, it looks to be a bit of a lazy port.
