The estate, originally given to the Ringsted monastery by King Eric Menved, has changed hands many times throughout history. In 1718, King Frederick IV acquired the estate, transforming it into a garrison for his cavalry. The modern castle, as seen today, began its transformation in 1746 when Frederick V bestowed it upon his prime minister, Adam Gottlob Moltke. Since then, it has remained under the ownership of the Moltke family, currently owned by Count Otto Joachim Peter Moltke and Count Christian Georg Peter Moltke.
Visitors can enjoy the estate's French garden, lakes, alleyways, and the Big Animal garden, all open to the public on weekends and public holidays from 9 AM until sunset. The park offers a serene escape with no entrance fee, making it a perfect Sunday activity. Imagine strolling through these beautiful gardens, a privilege usually reserved for the estate's owners.
