@@OpalAllen-j8r AND he did all that was asked of him. He went on KP duty, guard duty, and field duty just like everyone else. Any soldier that could afford it would live off base. He was offered to entertain and not have to do those things, but said he wanted to be like every other soldier and not take advantage. Despite his fame, Elvis was always just one of the guys, Wiggison said. In fact, he inspired the other men to be better, stronger soldiers. "When things got tough," said Wiggison, "you could be out at night, it's cold and raining and you're on guard duty, and he was out there, too. If he could do it, that made me feel like, OK, I can do this!" "I want everyone to know," he said, "how good a person Elvis was. He was the kind of person I loved being around." And he smiles wide when telling the story of the time he was drafted into the military with the most famous person on the planet. The years he spent with Elvis clearly had a lasting impact. "He stuck with it," Wiggison said about Elvis. "He did his job as well as I did mine, and I appreciated that. It was great!"

Because Elvis was sooo nervous about performing live, the producer said he could just go out, say hi and then leave, that would be enough! I think he knew Elvis would , once on stage, fall into his love of entertaining and thrive off the energy of the audience and his old friends, whom he persuaded to go on with Elvis, recreating their original manner of recording together. Again such an observant reaction, you are definitely a kindred Elvis spirit now!!👌💕🕺

When I first heard this in 1969, I cried like a baby. Mac Davis wrote this for Elvis. I was 17 and not looking forward to my eighteenth birthday. Vietnam was raging and tearing the soul and the fabric of America apart. I was brought up in the projects, and I have seen this song play out more than once. Poverty breeds a sense of hopelessness which then turns to anger. I was almost beaten to death when I was six years old by a thirteen-year-old boy. He knocked out all my teeth and kicked me in the dirt like I was less than a human being.. Ya'll we have to love one another. Thank you for a great song that needs to hit the charts again today. I did go into the army and watched Vietnam tear our nation apart, and its soul is still wounded. This is your boy in Tennessee trying to spread the love of Jesus Christ. If we all lived for him and loved one another, hatred would stop, and there would be no crime.
