@@OpalAllen-j8r AND he did all that was asked of him. He went on KP duty, guard duty, and field duty just like everyone else. Any soldier that could afford it would live off base. He was offered to entertain and not have to do those things, but said he wanted to be like every other soldier and not take advantage. Despite his fame, Elvis was always just one of the guys, Wiggison said. In fact, he inspired the other men to be better, stronger soldiers. "When things got tough," said Wiggison, "you could be out at night, it's cold and raining and you're on guard duty, and he was out there, too. If he could do it, that made me feel like, OK, I can do this!" "I want everyone to know," he said, "how good a person Elvis was. He was the kind of person I loved being around." And he smiles wide when telling the story of the time he was drafted into the military with the most famous person on the planet. The years he spent with Elvis clearly had a lasting impact. "He stuck with it," Wiggison said about Elvis. "He did his job as well as I did mine, and I appreciated that. It was great!"

Because Elvis was sooo nervous about performing live, the producer said he could just go out, say hi and then leave, that would be enough! I think he knew Elvis would , once on stage, fall into his love of entertaining and thrive off the energy of the audience and his old friends, whom he persuaded to go on with Elvis, recreating their original manner of recording together. Again such an observant reaction, you are definitely a kindred Elvis spirit now!!👌💕🕺

When I first heard this in 1969, I cried like a baby. Mac Davis wrote this for Elvis. I was 17 and not looking forward to my eighteenth birthday. Vietnam was raging and tearing the soul and the fabric of America apart. I was brought up in the projects, and I have seen this song play out more than once. Poverty breeds a sense of hopelessness which then turns to anger. I was almost beaten to death when I was six years old by a thirteen-year-old boy. He knocked out all my teeth and kicked me in the dirt like I was less than a human being.. Ya'll we have to love one another. Thank you for a great song that needs to hit the charts again today. I did go into the army and watched Vietnam tear our nation apart, and its soul is still wounded. This is your boy in Tennessee trying to spread the love of Jesus Christ. If we all lived for him and loved one another, hatred would stop, and there would be no crime.

Yes! Yes! This part of his 68 special was "like sitting in the front room with our favorite star" (adding the following) or better yet sitting with an old friend who had been sorely missed; lost to a place that didn't love him or respect him like we did - lost to a place called Hollywood. In 68 fans everwhere welcomed Elvis home, performing live, on stage in front of his adoring fans instead of behind a movie screen. ❤ An ELVIS fan, then, now & forever.

Elvis had not performed live on stage in many years! He was so nervous the director /producer had to kind of push him to go out on stage! Lol. That's why the director set it up like a jam session you would do in a studio ...instead of a live performance. Like you noticed and pointed out.... it gives it more of an intimate setting. It enabled Elvis to relax a lot more and get into the music rather than worrying about the audience.

Stunning in every way. Went to the annual Elvis festival in the town of Parkes, NSW, Australia 2 years ago. Absolutely wonderful. People come from across the world to attend and of course, hordes of impersonators. The train from Sydney to Parkes is affectionately called the Elvis Express! The festival has been going for 30 odd years now. He is truly loved and it would seem, timeless. A legend indeed.

So many younger blacks are really surprised to discover "old" recording artists had fabulous voices!

Two documentaries, "Elvis: That's the Way It Is," (1970) and "He Touched Me: The Gospel Music of Elvis Presley" (1999) shows Elvis at his 'natural' best, just like this video from the TV special.

I first heard Elvis in 1956 when I was 7 years old. I had never heard music like that before.

This show must be the pinnacle of how handsome, cool, sexy and charismatic a human Male can be. His whole appearance is… WOOW! Then add the smile, charm, charisma, humour on top of all that… There couldn’t have been a woman who was there who wasn’t… *hungry* after that. 😉

Thanks kind man, I hope you will do a few movie songs. He did 31 movies. Try "Mean Woman Blues" from the movie "Loving You". Another is " Rubbernecking" from the movie "Change of Habit". And of course " A Little Less Conversation". From the movie "Live a Little, Love a Little". A few gems of fun. Thank you so much, your reactions, you make my day.

I absolutely loved your reaction! It seems authentic, not over the top, just you genuinely enjoying the performance and I could see it on your face. You have a great smile by the way! Also don't worry, Elvis is so beautiful that most straight men can't help but stare and admire and if they don't they are just jealous 😂. Anyway, I have subscribed because I love Elvis and I loved your reaction. Thank you so very much for sharing with us! 😁

This was right after he returned from serving in the Army. He was in the Army for 2 years. They said he didn't need to go but Elvis said he needs to serve our country n didn't want any special treatment n even went thru boot camp n drove tanks.

the lies you spread should only believed by a fool like you. In fact, he was a jeep driver. The ones that drove jeeps were the protected ones.

This was 1968, Elvis returned from the army in 1960. He had only been making movies for years, that's why this was his comeback to live performing.

Elvis did not drive tanks. He drove jeeps. Jeep drivers were the ones that were looked after.

@@susancrouthamel760 Well perhaps you should fact check things before you make false claims about what people do and did. You should care, making false claims kills innocent people.
