Nice Video , thanks for uploading, not fished the Clyde yet, I have just started using French leader technique, would this be a good area for this method..

Hi Richard. Thanks for your comment. In general yes French leader is very suitable for this section though in general, French Leader is my preferred method for Grayling anywhere. It offers little resistance to the flies and water and allows the angler to keep the line off the water. Especially when the water is very clear like now. The only consideration though at this precise moment is that though in the summer season French Leader is considered a very effective low water technique, when the water is as low as currently ( there has not been any significant rain or snow/snowmelt) the fish often move into deep holes or move down stream say into the Clyde Valley. If you are prepared to cover water you will likely pick up a fish here or there but myself and a friend failed to find any "up top" on Saturday. One angler said he got a fish and I heard of another getting a few after a lot of searching up top, trotting last week. We could do with a wee bit more water and maybe some cold frosty days, which make for good Grayling outings. This was my outing at the weekend: www.theunfamousfly.co.uk/a-trial-on-the-clyde/

@@TheunfamousflyCoUk Cheers , I have watched a lot of your videos, The Carron ones and other clyde ones,I like small rivers as well, I just got interested in French leader stuff as the trout season was finishing last year, I used to be a across and down river fisher mostly for sea trout on Earn at Crieff, but past 10 years have turned round and faced the other way fishing dries and duo style, and as the river season wasn't great for these methods, I have been drawn to French Leader/euro nymph , as like you said river fishers used this method well last season when dries wouldn't work..I am a subscriber to your stuff . cheers

@@richardpm38 Good question, ask a 100 anglers you will get 100 different opinions. I guess geographically the Clyde Valley kind of starts around the East Kilbride Junction on the M74 down to about Lanark. However in fishing terms for our specific purposes, once you exit the M74 just after Larkhall, down to the north side of Lanark, is what I regard as the Clyde Valley. There are a few spots though you either can't fish, or are either hard to access ( permanently or temporarily) or a bit slow and deep ( depending on conditions). Just North of Garrion Bridge is my personal northerly limit though I have heard of good grayling fishing even on Mid Clyde water ( if you know where to look), then you have Dalserf, Mauldslie ( bridge there is closed ), Crossford, Rosebank and down to Stonebyres where access is restricted. I am sure with a bit local knowledge there are some gems in there that I am unaware of.
