Let's Get Dark: My favorite dark blues in 2024!

Let's look at some dark blue inks! I'm a big fan of blue inks, and so it was tough to narrow down this big category to just a few. So, follow along, find a new favorite ink, and tell me what your favorite dark blue inks are!
Some of these categories are really specific, but that's how my colodex is organized, so that's what we get! These aren't in a particular order, and sometimes there are more than 5. Honorable mentions are always an option!

I don’t get tired of dark blue ink… so many favs for me. Love the Shikiori inks, Shigure is an amazing dark dusky purple. I will order Yonaga. Thanks!

I forgot all about the Lyrebird series. Great, punchy blue(s). I feel like one of them was meant to be permanent? Also I recall they were something like $8 for 50ml or otherwise very affordable.

So many good dark blues! Lately I've been loving Anderillium Flying Squid Blue. Diamine's Oxford Blue is also quite wonderful.

I think I have that one from Anderillium, but I haven't gotten around to using it yet. I'll need to get to that soon.

Dang it, now I really want to try a sample of the Maruzzen ink. And now I’ll have try the octopus Min ink, just because your wife’s a fan of Yoongi!😂

Ugh. The Maruzen inks are so good. And so hard to get. The Min ink is from 3Oysters in Korea. Octopus is a German ink maker.

Excellent deep, dark blues on display here. From the ones I own I agree about Sailor Yonaga and Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo. Some of the other I have and love a lot are: Sailor Manyo Kikyou Sailor Shikiori Kasasagi Visconti Van Gogh Wheatfield with Crows Diamine Oxford Blue

You know, I don't have any of those. How is the Visconti ink? I don't have any of their modern inks.

@@inkdependence The Visconti ink is excellent. Nicely (not overly) saturated, consistently medium-to-wet flow, well-behaved, superb standout shade of deep, dark blue that works wonderfully in the three pens I’ve used it with, so far: Aurora Optima (Fine Flex), Sailor KoP (M) and Lamy 2k (M). I love the standard Visconti Blue, too. And Visconti’s Old Vineyard with Peasant Woman is also an appealing medium gray ink that I quite like.

Have you tried Diamine Regency Blue? Beautiful shade of ink.

What beautiful blues! I never get tired of them. Those all excellent choices. Do you think there is difference between deep and dark blues? I think I would call these deep blues and have a category between these and blue-blacks that I would call dark blues. But maybe I’m just looking for an excuse to look at more blue inks.

Maybe so. One about hue and the other about....vibe? I don't know, but it does make sense to me.

A lot of ink categorization is all about vibes and gut feelings. Which is as it should be.

Where is Franklin Christoph "shop denim blue"?

That one might have ended up in the teal category? Or a darker category like blue-black? Or maybe it just got edged out on the day I was picking colors? I don't remember. 😅

Which is with shading and without smearing?

The nice thing about that is that if an ink is prone to shading then it's rare that it'll do any smearing (unless you get them wet). The very sheeny inks are more prone to smear after they're dry.
