The wooden piece is a nut bowl. It usually comes with a nut cracker and a picker, to pick the nut out of the shell. Not sure what the other things are. I usually put a small tree up. I enjoy being with family more than decorating during the holidays. My youngest daughter and family recently moved from Texas back to FL after 13 years. I'm looking forward to having all my family together again. I am 80 and having a hard time getting around right now. With Gods grace, love and healing powers I'm hoping to be back to good health by the holidays. I'm asking for prayers from your subscribers if you don't mind for not only my health but for anyone else who may be having some health issues who view your VLOG. God bless you and your family. I enjoy your VLOGS so much I don't think I ever miss one of your videos.

The copper thing with the holes up top and the long handle is known as a bed warmer. It was used in colonial days. That particular one is not vintage or antique but as a reproduction it’s a great conversation piece to be put up on the wall.
@ThrilledThrifter3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Robin! Now I wish I would have grabbed it.

A bed warmer has a solid lid and no holes so "sparks" cannot pop out. You put coal or dying wood embers in it, wrapped a towel around it, placed it at end of bed covers to warm the bed up right before retiring. Never left it in bed long. That pot you bought is similar looking, but it is a chestnuts roaster or even popcorn popper. The steam comes out of holes in lid and you hold it just above flames of fire. Used it at my log home.

I think the item that looks like a tennis racket is supposed to be a replica of a rug beater, they used to use before vacuum cleaners came around. Hang your rug out on your clothes line and beat the dust out of them.

A rug beater is a sturdy wood paddle or a woven wire paddle. I have collected both. One whack with that fragile woven paddle would break it. The open woven paddle is a replica of a "thresher paddle" which was used to seperate grain from chafe. There are farm paintings showing the "threshing of wheat" with women and men using long woven paddles shaped just like it.

I wish we were neighbors...we would DEFINITELY BE Goodwill and crafting Buddies! I have a "trick"...I buy cheap beat up fake christmas trees at yard sales ...then use the lifelike branches on tops of bookcases, china cupboards, kitchen cabinets etc. for volume or depth then add REAL evergreen and holly branches on top. I can gather a small amount of real greens and stretch them that way.

My husband passed away a couple years ago on Christmas morning. I have a really hard time even thinking about it now. I did go up in the attic a few weeks ago just to take a look and see if I had a feel for it this year. Sweet Chrissy- I am so sorry for your loss. I understand losing loved ones around a certain holiday, or a special occasion. It does stay in our hearts for a long, long time. It is never the same, we smile, we may laugh but the hurt is still attached to our hearts. Prayers for comfort…. Deep comfort during the holidays when society keeps telling “us” we need to be happy, cheerful, etc…. many of us are not, we are hurting deeply. Please know you are not alone with grief and sadness on Christmas. I focus on what the day is meant for…the birth of our Savior which I am DEEPLY THANKFUL FOR… and honesty I am glad when Christmas DAY has passed. I don’t dislike Christmas… I dislike what they have done with Christmas… commercialized it to be what is not meant to be. They have made it about SELF JOY…. Etc…. My heart hurts for your grief…. Prayers for comfort and peace in your heart. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

November 1 Christmas decorating is a little early for my family. We start harvest decorating around the second week of September, however we do not decorate for Halloween. As the weeks pass it looks more and more like Thanksgiving. We have a massive Thanksgiving dinner then the day after Thanksgiving all Harvest decor comes down and Christmas is on. The first of the year, as we pack up and put away Christmas, we take the opportunity to give the whole house a massive cleaning.

wood piece is a nut bowl just like described by others. I am thinking the brass and black thing may have been a modern replica of a bed warmer for coals. As for the Christmas, I am thinkin of draggin it out of storage now to start the set up. I usually do several trees but may only do1-2 this year. My themes vary by my mood at the time. Ive seen a lot of buffalo plaid again, so I may just do a buffalo plaid tree and a traditional stuffed with all the sparklies I have. I cannot wait to decorate inside and out! The family helps but it always ends up being my daughter and me doing the decorating. Tis the season!!!!

Miss Carol is right the wooden bow is for nuts. The middle sticking up part is to hold the Nutcracker and 4 picks. Over the years I have found the replacement cracker and picks. My Daddy kept one on the coffee table in the den to eat his nuts he liked all kinds. The woven straw thing reminds me of an old-timey rug beater to take your rugs outside hang them on the line and beat the dirt out. This was before vacuum cleaners. The other lady was right the metal thing with long wooden handle is a replica of an old-fashioned bed warmer where they would put hot coals in it and run it over the bed and under the covers before going to sleep. But this one is not old and can't be use it's just for decoration. I watch you all the time from Birmingham Alabama

I definitely got the beach picture. I have 2 of similar style. I will have to check to see if it is my same artist. What a nice tray basket. Our Goodwill has several baskets but they are always in bad shape and or over priced. I'm partial to angels like the set you got. Like you, I would gotten the red jewelry box. It could be used for many things all year around. One thing I would do is put a collection of pins. Great pitcher! I found a yellow one that I put utensils in. Going to Goodwill later today. Your Goodwill always seems to have stuff I am looking for but mine rare does. I did find a numbered photograph (large size) for $4.99 and snatched it up. Most of the other pictures that size were marked $24.99. Used to skip that section but now it is the first area I check as it is just south of the shopping cart area at the front of the store.

That was a little fountain. The wooden item was to hold nuts. The tiny holes in the center help the nut cracker and picks.

Julie, I saw the bunny picture, and I was like “oh please don’t leave that behind lol. It’s so adorable 😍. Love the Christmas pitcher as well. TYFS 💜💜💜

My mom had those kissing angels. She always put them out at Christmas! I think the thing that looks like a tennis racket may be a rug beater? Love the vintage paper cut outs!

Hello Julie and Elizabeth. I may decorate a little early this year maybe mid Nov. Love your haul.. Great idea using the jewelry box as a riser! Elizabeth your clothes are great and you are such a darling. You will be too cute in a cowgirl hat. Big hugs!!

I would have bought the large scalloped rectangular tray. When I had a big home I decorated my fireplace with vintage dolls and bears. Raggedy Ann’s sat in a vintage doll crib. I had three trees. Now I’ll be lucky if I put up one on my island in the kitchen. Just not a lot of room in my townhouse. Maybe one in the loft with antique ornaments. We won’t be having much company, everyone is scattered now except one of my daughters and two grandchildren. I think the jewelry box is missing the mirror. Love the pitcher.

Thank you Carol! Yes I think it is. I thought a cute vintage card would look nice in its place. I show my haul at the end of this video.

This year I will not be in my own home. My husband lost his job and we had to sell my house. No worries it was time to let someone else love it as much as we have. We are living with my sister who lost her husband. So I am decorating her home. Can’t wait to get into my new small home.

You and your sister are so fortunate to have each other. Good wishes for your husband to find a job that he looks forward going to each day.
