Hi Brendon. This brought back great memories as a first time visitor to NYC from Sydney, Australia in August 2019. Visited that store and although I didn't buy anything had a good conversation with the owner. Great store. I have the Thunderclap Newman record on vinyl. Noticed you walked past Terra Blues on the way there. My wife and I say a show there featuring a great blues player SaRon Crenshaw. Enjoyed the video.

This is the format I prefer -- intro, trip to the store, in-store footage and recap sharing the "loot" you picked up. Can't tell in the video -- does this store organize each media type by alpha order only or do they also separate into genre (rock, pop, jazz, etc.)? Very cool shop. And I own very little vinyl, but actually have that Fastway LP you showed. Great cover!
@BrendonSnyder3 жыл бұрын

Nice look around your city and some of its public artworks. It's great to see you look at Terry Reid briefly, the man with a superb voice, the man Jimmy Page wanted for Zep and also sought after for Deep Purple. That store is more for the tourists visiting NY, too pricey. Generation records a few blocks away has a little better prices and selection. You got some nice finds but I’m sure you had to do some digging.
@BrendonSnyder2 жыл бұрын
Both stores stock almost entirely different items. Generation focuses on Modern Alternative Rock and some Metal with barely any Classic Rock and a fraction of the quantity, while Village Revival stocks a small amount of new music and about 10 times more used focusing mostly on Classic and 80’s Rock. In addition, Generation is getting rid of CDs while Village Revival still sells a large selection. In terms of prices is all subject to what is being sold. Since it’s different stuff you can’t really compare pricing because it’s really based on how rare something is. That said, Generation has higher pricing on stuff from Record Store Day which both places sell. In my opinion Village Revival is the superior store and not just for tourists. That’s coming from a guy who used to love Generation before they changed a few years back almost eliminating CDs and focusing primarily on new vinyl.

I'm in the NYC area and I know this store in fact went there a week ago and again confirmed that prices there on vinyl are at least 3X normal prices. Just awful I let the owner know what I thought and he told me to get out. Tourist trap!

That’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it. But I haven’t been to the store in probably 2 years so I can’t speak to it present day. But you saw the prices in the video and they’re not what you’re claiming it is presently. So keep that in mind when commenting on old videos: things change, times change, you might need to as well. 👍
