Yep first step is try with a board and hammer to split chain after an hour of cussing and repenting and smashing fingers just go get the the chain breaker

Pete thank you. 62 years ago I worked on a farm about a 1/2 from home on the Main Street. The owner let me take his 300 home for lunch. Made me feel good at 14 years of age.

My Dad used to use that "flat chain tool" as a backside hand flattening anvil when we replaced lost rivets on the cycle bar mower. It was a handy thing to have around for sure.

I went to the Red Power Roundup Show 2024 in Spencer, Iowa , it was fantastic. We visited the first 2 days, Thursday and Friday but unfortunately Saturday and Sunday had to be cancelled due to the flooding. There were quite a few gold demonstrators there. Love your videos. Best wishes. Peter. 🚜🇬🇧

Pete: The tool that you didn't recognize is a Peoria Steel Chain Detacher Tool made by Tool Hall Castings Co. I believe that Moline Steel also made this type of tool. They were used for the flat chain links. My dad had a couple of them on the farm.

That red wrench with slots in it was used to take apart the square links of chain used in manure speaders and anything that used the old square link chain, that was common in old equipment.

(1 being in the hills as mainly market gardeners & the other out in the country for more larger farms) We sold Inter Trucks & I resorted a few including Scouts for one of my bosses too! Pete, The red tool that you picked up in the exhibit hall that had the slots is a tool used to assemble and disassemble chains, the style of chain like you have in the bottom of your manure spreader. You would slide a link into one of the slots, kink the chain and use a hammer to drive the links apart.

The red tool you didn't know what you never new what it was is for taking elevator chain links apart that are stuck. Might work on manure spreaders also. Thanks for the tour, enjoyed it.

I was born and raised in Niagara Falls, NY and remember Chisholm-Ryder. Along with that bean harvester they also manufactured grape harvesters along with other combine harvesters. Thanks, Pete, for bringing back an old memory.

Interesting to see the original and restored vintage IH tractors. Lots of TLC went into these. The red cast slotted tool was a chain breaker for link type chain. Guess I'm giving my age away as many of the letter series tractors were common during my younger days. Never too old to learn more about old IH iron!!!

Pete, I recently worked with a gentleman who knows you in person. He, too, was a farmer. He had dairy cows. He used to share stories with me about how hay used to be baled with wire. This video just brought all those memories flooding back. Those very same bale wires are still used today. Only we use them now for baling cardboard, paper and plastic bales.
