Disgaea 5 is my first JRPG and I've been playing for a few days now, at around chapter 5 a guide is needed to make sure I'm building and playing right, thanks for making this!

So the reason I came here is I got the game due to seeing that the levels could go high- but then here I am, seeing an assemble, the cheat shop, squads, item worlds.... Items have levels, you can put things called innocents inside of items, characters grow from doing (seemingly) anything... I'm sitting here like "Imma need to look into this before I start building my characters in a way that cripples them."

There really is no way to cripple a character. There are optimal ways of leveling them up though.

I've wanted to play a disgaea game for forever now and I saw complete was on sale for 20 bucks so I bit. I'm in love. This guide is helping me a ton too. It's super overwhelming but I know I'm gonna get it

chests will pop up at the beginning of every chapter, be sure to grab them soon because if you change base decorations the chests will disappear

I've tried getting into it over 3 years. Finally committing to it. I feel like the guides are either too basic or too complex and don't hit a true begginers sweetspot where it's above the basics of an srpg but bellow the complexity of heres how to get to level 9999 and unlock all subclasses before chapter 4 kind of stuff. Im trying to just play through the main story and experiment with the mechanics a little and then try to do the fancy stuff in the endgame. I figure the game will show you how to do things when you need to, and im overcomplicating something that appears complicated but isn't that bad. I beat disgeae 1 but didn't power level or do endgame stuff. Only got to level 90

You can beat the main story without to many issues even without using any of the in game systems. The story characters can get you through to end game.

Just got D5 complete a week ago on Nintendo Switch and you echo my sentiments exactly about a lot of the guides. Either to simple or to complex, and I would also add often times all over the place or just poorly put together. To be fair, the actual steps to max stats/level is not to hard to figure out from the information available on the internet. However, most videos guides are poorly put together and not streamlined enough as far as disseminating the information to new players of Disgaea. There are a lot of overlapping mechanics and progressions from maxing classes, maxing aptitudes, innocent farming, item world, character world, land of carnage, best strategies for grinding, evilities, squads, etc. I'm just surprised no one has made one good long form video wrapping all this info into a step by step guide for new players or even returning players who might just want a refresher. I think it could be done and would probably be a dense video about 40 to 60 minutes of explanation. I just need one solid video with time stamps explaining what to do step by step, and breaking down the mechanics at each step so I can have a better understanding of the why behind what is being suggested without the extra "let's play" video elements. Nothing wrong with let's plays, but for the purposes of a guide, I would just like something a bit more polished in video presentation and streamlined in explaining the mechanics.

@@travanosymonette9079 I think most guides end up like that because the story is always decently easy to beat without much grinding . It's really just a long tutorial for the true meat of the game, post game and maxing everything out

This is the first episode I'm watching, so I'm not sure if you cover this later, but I'm pretty sure it tells you which stat is used to scale a Special's effect on the STAT line of a Special's info panel. For example, Seraphina's Tri-Burst has SPD and HIT on the STAT line, which I'm pretty sure means if you increase SPD and HIT, it will do more damage and inflict a greater debuff to their SPD stat based on the Ailment line.

You are correct. Specials have a Stat entry in the menu. If it list a stat, then increasing that stat will increase the effectiveness of the special. Not all specials have a stat though.

I have a save file dedicated to using desco I use 4 celstial hostesses an archer and a flora beast a really aura heavy set up using usalia is pretty fitting for the composition too for even more damage reduction and global support attacks.

I bought Disgaea 3 on the Vita years back and then 5 on the Switch recently and I still don't understand it lol I'm going to sit with this video a couple times to hammer it in though so thanks! I really dig the art style and humor of these games but I just can't seem to wrap my head around all the mechanics.
