Thanks for the advice! Have you ever tried cleaning silver with boiling water, baking soda and tinfoil? I’ve read about it but haven’t tried it yet. Apparently you line a plastic tub with foil, (shiny side up )and mix 2tbsp of baking soda with a litre of boiling water and pour it over the items sitting on the foil. The tarnish drops off and transfers to the foil! 🤞🏼
@OldeHadleyVintage
@OldeHadleyVintage 2 ай бұрын
Yes I have… I have had decent results getting off a good amount of the tarnish and you use the salt and baking soda and yes, it does transfer to the aluminum foil or you can put it into a aluminum pan that you purchase at the grocery store those disposable type and it actually does work for the most part but I did notice that I had to take them out rinse them and dry them and then do a little bit more hand polishing to finish them off but it does a fairly good job also you can use salt and a lemon and the lemon and salt also help to break down the tarnish. There’s lots of different things and it’s fun to experiment… Thank you for watching.❤️

Thanks for the tips Jeffrey, now I have one for you. I have one for removing tarnish on silver brass or copper ( esp. copper) I buy Ketchup in large bottles when on sale as this cleans metals beautifully without any damage to your skin(I’m not one to use rubber gloves as I don’t like the feeling on my hands). Even gets into grooves of elaborately detailed metal by using soft bristle brush ( not intimating what it does to one’s stomach, as I never use this as a condiment)!
@OldeHadleyVintage
@OldeHadleyVintage 2 ай бұрын
Great tip! Thanks so much!! I definitely have to try that on my copper cookie cutters cause I always have trouble getting into the groove of some of those… I usually use lemon with kosher salt and I usually scrub them with that and that usually gets them nice and clean as well, but I’m gonna try the ketchup! Thank you for the tip. I appreciate that and thank you so much for watching!! 🥰

Hi, Thank you for this informative video. The use of a soft towel at the bottom of the sink is helpful. I never thought about that. I have a question for you, is everyday household bleach an option at taking out staining in crazed dishes and ironstone? I too am drawn to silver and pewter, I use Wright's silver cleaner on darkened (black) silver items. Works great, then a lot of elbow grease I like old postcards and seasonal cards, they bring back memories. Take care and looking forward to your next video. Bye. Jersey Ann from NJ thumbs👍

Thanks for watching! I would not use bleach as I think that’s a little bit too harsh. It would be equivalent to putting it in a dishwasher because the dishwasher uses chemicals like bleach so I would avoid that. I would try the hydrogen peroxide that’s the best and safest method I have found. Especially for really old antiques,

Wonderful video Jeffery very informative. 🎉I also use my vintage on a daily basis. I microwave my Pyrex. I only shop thrift stores. If I had rare Pyrex that I didn’t get cheaply I would probably only display it.I have a hall refrigerator casserole dish that is oven proof that I bake casserole’s in. I still haven’t got up courage to eat off my vintage dishes. Was worried I might be serving my husband lead on a platter.😜( I know Scott and other experts say it’s safe .) I don’t have a dishwasher so can only hand wash😊🧼🧽Looking forward to more videos from you. Happy thrifting 💙

Thanks for the oxy clean tip! Inherited some incredible table linens all are white, but are yellow with minus stains. going to try cleaning them this weekend😊
@OldeHadleyVintage
@OldeHadleyVintage Ай бұрын
Sounds great!👍🏼 it’s amazing what OxiClean can do when you fill up your washtub if your washing machine let them soak or if you don’t have that ability and you have a front loader, then just let them soak in a basin with hot water and OxiClean slush it around really well and let them soak overnight and then wash them like you normally would but add OxiClean to the wash as well with your detergent. My advice for antique table linens if they are very old, let them air dry and then press them. If you put them in the dryer, they tend to shrink and then they don’t press properly and they kind of look all catty Wompus. Thank you for watching and good luck. ☺️☺️

I enjoyed this video. I love crazing, too but didn't know what to do about the staining. Now I do. Thank you!!! Does the peroxide become inactive after a few days or can it be used more than once?
@OldeHadleyVintage
@OldeHadleyVintage 2 ай бұрын
It does tend to lose its potency, so I generally toss it and you’ll see that it will be discolored after the dishes. Sit in there for a few days as it starts to pull out those stains so after those several days of soaking, I toss the solution. It’s kind of like reusing dishwater in a sink.. gets kinda yucky… thanks for watching! 🥰
