In this free English lesson you'll learn the English vocabulary you'll need to talk about things that are obsolete. An item that is obsolete is an item that is no longer used, or not used by very few people. There are many things that have become obsolete over the last few decades. In this English class I'll talk about over 30 of them and it might bring back some memories if you're around my age!
You'll learn vocabulary like: cassette tapes, vcrs, vinyl records, movie rentals, film cameras, language labs, fax machines, floppy disks, dialup internet, pay phones, rolodex, overhead projectors, landlines, and many more!
I hope you enjoy this free English class about things that are now obsolete. Have a good day!
⌛ Remember: Always watch the video three times. Twice today with English subtitles on, and once tomorrow with the English subtitles off. This will reinforce the English you have learned!

I love nostalgia. Whenever I see things that are obsolete, I always remember my grandparents who I love.

Good old days😊 I still remember that I tried to look for a nice and quiet place to record a song from CD, which I borrowed from my friend, to a cassette tape. Sometimes my cassette tape got my Dad's sneeze, which was really noisey, or door bell sound. And I had to record it again .😂 And I'm kinda shocked that most of features are replaced by a smart phone. But without trailblazers, I mean, Obsolete things, how could we develop a new technology? So, obsolete things, you guys rock😊👏✨ Thanks, Bob.

@@noriko244 You too, Noriko!⛄ Btw, it's ok to keep old dear, obsolete😉 things for the people from generation X😁. Here, I seem to be contradicting my advice from"Three men in a boat" given to Bob some time ago. "Throw away the lumber..." Well, it's my soft spot🙂 As for the winter, yeah, we're enjoying it at full swing))) ❄️

@@KonstantinEgorovSpb That's a positive contradiction. You could create your own theory from "Three men in a boat"😉. From gen X to gen alpha, pass down the memories and things. Love it. Thanks 😀

Hi, Bob, I still listen to music from CDs and buy them regularly because I don't want to have to rely on the Internet to listen to music, which isn't always very reliable here. We also have a landline phone and I still write a lot by hand

I have used almost 80% of the things or stuffs, you talked about in the class, some of them I had forgotten but it's really nice to think about them. Some time it feels bad that we dont use them anymore, but as they say change is constant. Thanks a lot for the class and nostalgia.

My first WalkMan player was using the cassette tapes. I used 5.25 inch and 3.5 inch floppy disks for my first computer. I remember that if a single file was too big I had to compress it to a multiple disks. In the early year we used CAD, we had to take a bunch of disks to the printing room to print just a single drawing. Haha it was about 30 years ago.😂 Thank you for this interesting lesson!😊

I remember the Pay Phone it was popular before it was replaced by the cell phone right around the time I graduated from college. 😎 Roddie. long-time viewer, first time subscriber.

Thank you for this fascinating lesson on obsolete items! It's incredible to think about how technology has evolved, making some of these once-essential items now rarely used. This kind of learning reminds me of a tool I think you and your viewers might find helpful, especially for those learning English.
