I think this game is pretty amazing, I kind of wish they would make it into a consel game, but add like different graphic stages, achievements, more things to do, etc.

You don't NEED interaction. The point of the game is to immerse oneself into the universe of the game and to "lose" yourself in the child-like awe of exploring nature and finding new things. This game isn't really my thing, but I can appreciate what the devs were trying to achieve and I personally think they did very well.

I like seeing other people enjoy games like this. I'm glad that games like this are out here, and that there are people that enjoy this type of game, but I personally am not able to get into this type of thing. This is a 'game', in fact, despite what a lot of people are arguing. Just because it's executed differently, doesn't mean it's a totally different thing. So, in short, I'm glad that things like this are out there, even if I'm not drawn to it.

I love the lack of interactivity. Wandering aimlessly is actually very satisfying to me, it feels nice to not have anything in particular to be doing and rather just soak in the experience. :)

I find it interesting that people are more willing to pay far more for static works of artistic expression (paintings, etc.) than the material value, however when it comes to digital bits, which a developer puts blood, sweat, and tears into over the course of development, a few dollars are a sticking point. Reinterpretation of a painting requires you to change, getting multiple paths of exploration and multiple personal impacts from a work of art like this is essentially free after purchase.

It's 4am, I have my headphones in, and I couldn't sleep. I play this video, and the relaxing environment starts helping me drift off. Northernlion - "Just close your eyes, and relax". I did just that; feeling like I was finally about to fall asleep... A few seconds later, and never have I jumped so much in my life. Unsub. Jk, I forgive you; though I don't think I'll be sleeping anytime soon. :(
@arbiterally10111 жыл бұрын
Honestly this game seems most comparable to Journey. It's a game all it's own that defies the base concepts of gaming value. Simply put it is about the environment and the experience more than any kind of ending.

yea i agree with you, also for such a simplistic game the price tag is rather high. Considering i can pay roughly double for minecraft where i can do the exact same thing if i so choose, with the added options of being able to build structures and explore caves/dungeons.

Dear Esther is a lot more based on visuals and seeing what the devs want you to see, Proteus is incredibly biased on audio. Pretty much everything makes a sound, and there's a lot more freedom to go around. I prefer Proteus over Dear Esther a lot, but I'm more for good audio than good visuals.

@sandnewts11 жыл бұрын
Yeah if you could interact with the environment or ruins left behind it would be fantastic. Just something to promote a sense of discovery and make wandering more interesting. That's really why Journey was so successful. I only wish Journey hadn't been so linear and focused on collecting.
@sandnewts11 жыл бұрын
I like the idea but I'm not sure about their design choices. Can you interact with anything in the environment? Does finding certain things trigger changes in music or visuals or other environmental features? Is there anything to really "discover" rather than just wandering across much of the same grassy fields with trees and snow capped mountains?
