Mid Atlantic accent. Was created by an Australian man who thought thats how everybody should speak. It was taught in schools in major cities like New York and a lot of people in show business came from there.
@RyanAllen12172 жыл бұрын
I believe this was also adopted further partially out of necessity, as microphones and speakers of the age weren’t very good at recording and reproducing the bass tones of more natural human voice. The Trans-Atlantic accent made speech a lot more treble-focused, and things sounded clearer because of it.

They didn't have a gazillion different snack food products and convenience food products available back then. If you look at a cookbook from back then, you'll see all kinds of recipes for stuff that no one would feel the need to make today because you could just buy it at the store, or there are WAY better options now. People had to make from scratch, every little tiny food item that existed, including a lot of snacks. Pre-made bagged snacks like chips were just starting to become a thing. People were only just starting to get used to stuff like that.
@daytonasixty-eight13543 жыл бұрын
@@Melissa0774 That's a big reason why everyone was skinnier back then too. You had to cook your food and buy it relatively fresh. Potato chips were kind of for special occasions so you didn't really have "junk" food snacks everywhere. If you wanted a snack, you cooked. So if you are the kind of person too lazy to exercise, you were probably too lazy to get up and cook something. No microwaves either.
@Melissa07743 жыл бұрын
@@daytonasixty-eight1354 Nowadays, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people only cook from scratch to save money. I'm sure there have got to be some people who only eat from restaurants or frozen dinners for every meal because they can afford it.
@daytonasixty-eight13543 жыл бұрын
@@Melissa0774 Not even because they can afford it. But because they don't know how to cook. I know many people who order "meal kits", eat out often, and reheat food. They have less money than they should have but don't connect that spending money on eating out is wasteful. As are delivered meal kits or certain meals in stores. In 1950 we were just 2 1/2 years out of the restrictions on food from WW2, when flour, sugar, butter, eggs, meat and other items were strictly rationed. So I'm sure there was still excitement when you could simply stock up on these recently restricted foods and entertain. In Britain, rationing didn't end until 1954, so the US was still ahead of the curve in food production and availability. All foods were appreciated and making a meal to share with friends was probably a happy event, in contrast to the war years.
