That's a really great method for trussrod construction specially if one is sans welder! Sometimes simple is best!

After 35 years I had my first truss rod snap the other day, in a 5 string bass I've been building. Doing the final setup and bang, the rod snapped where it had been welded to the adjusting nut (dual action rod). Steaming off the fretboard on a neck-through was painful, I ruined some of the body lacquer despite my best efforts so it will need a refinish too. Anyway, I have now made a new rod in the manner of your acoustic rod and it works perfectly. I had the advantage of owning a small mill and mini lathe to make the block and nut. Thanks for sharing the design, works a treat 👍

Hey Mark, I would like to know how you put the truss rod in an electric guitar neck from the back, with the skunk stripe please. It’s another way of doing it and I think the more knowledge I have and stay open minded, the better a guitar builder I will become (I hope). Thanks for all you do, I take this hobby very seriously now and it’s because of you that I am constantly diving deeper into this industry and art. Love it! 🤘😜🤘🎸

Greetings from Bergen, Norway! Thank you for an excellent youtube videos on making truss rods! I have an old bass in which the truss rod snapped. I removed the skunk stripe and took the old rod out. Bit of work that. Its a single piece bolt on neck, like you show in the end of the Q&A part, with a skunk stripe. It's a Cort GB54. My first bass, so sentimental value and all that. The depth of the groove in the neck is also curved, as you explained. Looking a the specs of most truss rods, they wont fit because of this. It ranges from 11 mm at its deepets, to 9 mm on the middle of the cut, at its shortest. Could probably fit one, but I would have to chisel the skunk stripe down to almost nothing. Another issue would seem that using "standard" truss rods, I would have to drill a whole for the end bolt, parallell along the line of the groove, on the bridge end of the neck - fastening the bolt from the other side. Could I "convert" the bass neck to fit a standard double truss rod, by drilling a hole at the birdge end as well, compensating with a slightly longer rod? Simen

Truss rods and nuts are an easy 10/32 american thread...guess what? The guy wires on stearman biplane flying wires from the 30's are also 10/32! If in case you have a screen door squaring wire from the 20's - 60's it is probably also 10/32! Loool
