These look very nice. The method I picked up is a little different. You put the whole cabbage in a large pot of simmering water and remove the outer leaves one by one as they loosen. It may be a little quicker, and it's also kind of fun. I also cut out the thick stalks to make the rolls softer and less fibrous.

Those look great, I’d definitely try them!! Just to add to the confusion (lol), my momma’s cabbage rolls are cooked on top of a layer of sauerkraut and the top is a tomato gravy of sorts. I’m not looking at the recipe but from memory you melt a small amount of crisco in your frying pan and then add equal amount of flour to make roux. Then you add in good quality tomato JUICE. Cook it together until it makes a gravy consistency, then season with salt and pepper, I also add in a touch of sugar to cut the acidity of the tomato juice. We always have that meal with mashed potatoes. It’s a special dinner at our house because when we make it we make an extra large disposable turkey roasting pan so we are sure to have leftovers. Put a scoop of mashed potatoes then 2 cabbage rolls leaning crosswise on the top and then light layer of gravy over the whole thing…SOOO GOOD!!! ❤❤❤❤❤

This is a good economic recipe. It's low glycemic if the rice is precooked and refrigerated and also low in fat with turkey. If you covered the pan, I doubt water would be required. Liquid is usually added to cook the rice, as most recipes use uncooked. Many people can not eat tomatoes, but I imagine if one wanted a flavorful sauce, pureed, sautéed sweet peppers and onions, and some chicken stock in this case would work nicely.
