Ravenloft seems like an excellent place for eco horror, whether that be the pollution in Nosos or the "farming" in G'henna. The Dugongs & Sea Dragons podcast is doing a long arc in Lamordia where the actual marine biologist players address whaling, energy transitions, and (scariest of all) academic politics. If there are fitting domains and plots to go around, I bet Tidwell & Soles's Fear and Nature could inspire or inform even more good adventures.

Ah, thank you so much for the reference to the podcast! I'll check it out. Those are a lot of excellent ideas for enriching a romp through the Domains of Dread! Best wishes, and cheers!

5e's "All domains are Isolated" thing really hurts this tale
@phdnd-drbowersАй бұрын
I actually don't think it needs to! Consider the film, "The City of Lost Children," and how we never see anything beyond the borders of the port city, which is the film's setting. A Ravenloft Domain could easily be a functioning port, depending on how you wanted to handle traffic through the Mists. No? Thanks very much for watching, and for your comment! Best wishes, and cheers!

Another great video Dr. Bowers! Another piece of Media I was thinking about when I seen Nosos was...funny enough...Ferngully because I would make a monster like that smoke monster Tim Curry played from that movie that's it. Will you do Nova Vassa and the horrors of losing one's self identity due to colonization?
@phdnd-drbowersАй бұрын
Absolutely! Yes, I have plans to cover Nova Vassa soon, and themes of colonialism and exploitation are always important to bring out! And yes, that's an excellent reference; I regret not making it! Hexus is an excellent villain from Ferngully--not only excellently performed, as you point out, by Tim Curry, but also a fittingly-themed villain for Nosos in particular! Thank you so very much, again, for watching, for commenting, and for your support this whole time! My apologies for the absence over the last few weeks; as I mentioned in my 5A tutorial video (uploaded yesterday), I was at a conference and then fell ill for a bit. I'm back in the saddle, now, though, so look forward for more Ravenloft videos soon! Always great to hear from you! Best wishes, and cheers!

That is a domain I wasn't expecting you bringing up! I guess anything's possible, then! Great job as always, Doctor!

Thank you so much, and thanks for watching! I was always a fan of Nosos, due to its modern problems and the applicability of its themes to our own time. I can only assume this hits close to home for you, as well? Best wishes, and cheers!

sweet another drop! I definitely think this is a great fundamental structure for a NOSO adventure. You asked if it's too brief, but I think it's perfect for a fun casual few sessions play. Really depends on how long one would like for it to be. Etc I could run it like this, or I could use it as the core plot hooks, but then add to it depending on how long i want the campaign to be. Could be you start out at even lower level (maybe even lv 1-3), and have various quest lines to find clean water, kill mutated beasts, find a rare herb for someone really sick, maybe even take some of those smoking ghosts encounters you mentioned, and of course a giant sewer dungeon maybe. Really getting to know the population and caring for them (sick children always tug at my heartstrings). Maybe the contamination keeps getting worse and worse, and the high CR mutated monsters also become more frequent, forcing the players to stop the happenings at it's core. Certainly something that's a lot of fun to play with! But I do enjoy this much more direct adventure, as not every campaign needs to be a year-long Barovia adventure.

Thank you so much for this feedback! These are some excellent points, both as suggestions for elongating this Nosos adventure into a full campaign, as well as observations for why a shorter romp through a lesser-known Domian of Dread is all right, after all! A giant sewer dungeon, especially, fits well for this adventure! One of the next Ravenloft Domains I'm covering, however, also boasts of a large and extensive sewer system. Can you guess which one it is? Many thanks again; best wishes, and cheers!

I know, right?! I was not prepared to cover Nosos, but the idea unexpectedly polluted my mind...! Thanks very much for watching! Check out more Ravenloft videos soon! Best wishes, and cheers!

You had me at OTYUGH
@phdnd-drbowersАй бұрын
That's what anyone has me at! When I ran a Dark Sun campaign (as a reskin of Rime of the Frostmaiden--see my video series on that if you're interested!), otyughs were all over the place. In the Forgotten Realms they're mostly urban garbage-disposal beasts, but on my version of Athas, they're huge "flesh-grazers" of the dunes! | Thanks so much for watching, and for commenting. Any favorite otyugh encounters you'd like to share? Best wishes, and cheers!
