Don't get me wrong this looks amazing, and I've learned a lot from your videos. But I can't get over this, and I'm surprised no ones seems to have called you out on this. That's not what a coconut looks like when still in a tree, and the coconuts "mouth" the weak one of the three 'holes', is the area where the vine connects to the fruit through the husks. So long story short the three holes generally reside one the upper hemisphere.

Was I the only one who saw the bug or little spider on the palette at 3:47 I think he may have entombed it in the paper towel trunk. So we may have a Haunted Palm. Mel puts up the do not disturb sign when he's trimming his fuzzy coconuts. Another nice tutorial there's around 5 builders I like to watch on here and seeing them do the same tree it's amazing the differences. I like to pick out the bits I like the most from each one and make mine a mix of styles.

Looking good, Mel. My only comment is that the hairy round bit that everyone thinks is the coconut is actually the inside of a larger fruit. If you search for images of coconut palms, you'll see them--big green ovals. The brown hairy bit (what everyone refers to as the coconut) is actually inside of the fruit, and only retrieved when the fruit is broken open.

Ahoi Mel, excellent video as always. You are my first stop if I need some information for my projects or a refresher on basic stuff. This palm trees looks very good and I think you can knock those out in about an hour per tree. The idea with the fake leaves is excellent and actually looks the part. I am planning to make some palm trees for a dried lake piece, but so far was not able to get a really good effect with the feather method. Mainly the feathers clump together and the leaves are not as fine or numerous than I would like them to be. I will be very interested to see how you refine the technique. I was also thinking about the bark texture. Your simple wire technique works perfectly for some species, but other have a very distinct texture (e. g. a date palm tree)that, so I fear, can only be achieved by sculpting the bark by hand. Pine cones did not entirely convince me so far, as they are often out of scale. Cheap Chinese palm trees may offer a good base to work on, as the trunk texture is often quite well cast and needs only a bit of clean-up. In any case, just my ramblings about palm trees ;). I love your work and hope the channel goes on for evermore (may it be on You Tube or another platform).

Hi, Mel. I saw recently a guy doing this and he used dry pepper grains to do the coconuts. I thought for a sec that maybe that was too small for 28mm, so that's why you went for Milliput but, on a second thought, this balls looks as big as a miniature's chest. Great work, anyways, as always. Greetings from London!

Dang, now we gotta find another thing to pester ya about. This has been really fun... ok, maybe not for you. but we've had a ball and you've been such a good sport. You shut us up fine. Well done! I wonder if there isnt a better analog for the fiber tho. The coconut fiber is 1/1 scale for what it is. Maybe poly fiber chopped up real fine? Or maybe shave a tennis ball? Dryer lint?? Anyway, great job. Dont worry about the coconuts not being green. Hollywood hasnt seemed to notice either.

GDay TTT. Excellent video. Just a suggestion with your palm tree. Eeerr coconuts aren't hairy, that's just how they turn up at supermarkets after they have been husked. They are smooth and light green and turn yellow when they ripen. The feathers look excellent and more realistic. Thank you for providing such professional tuition. Get hold of gauze from a pharmacy/old first aid kit. Soak it in watered down brown paint or even tea. Open it out, so it ends up being open weave. Take a bit of old sponge, and use it as a brush to put on some watered down black paint in a few splodges. Do the same with some green paint too. Let it dry, then suspend it over your model. I use toothpicks to make a framework.

You've only seen coconuts at the grocery eh? Yep on the tree they are green and shaped more like a football American kind) kind of 3 sided ordeal. When they mature the turn a brown with almost a silverish color and fall from the tree. It's kind of like brazil nuts if you have only seen them at the store you don't know what they look like on the tree same with cashews.

Hey Mel! I discovered your videos a few weeks ago and have enjoyed several thus far! I didn't realize so many cool things could be made from standard craft and hobby items! I love the palm trees! Quick question though. When you wrapped the tissue and then glued it on the trunk, did you do anything to mask the seam where you tore off the excess tissue? Also, I did a palm tree for a simple diorama years ago, and found that the plastic fern fronds actually did a nice nice for the palm fronds. And I see others pointed out to you that the coconuts while on the tree are actually greenish. I found that berries from some of the plastic plants were perfect size, and just needed a coat of paint! At any rate, thanks for the very informative vids! Keep up the great work!

Have you yet discovered the secrets of feathers? i just attempted to make one palm but instead of 1 i used 3 big wires to wrap around the trunk and a lot of some 0.4mm and wrapped that around about 6times (i made a date palm) tomorrow i will see if it worked out. and i'm trying to learn the feather painting too, it seems like you have to paint them before cutting it to the wanted form because the paint likes to curve the sides
