Responding to what you wrote in the description: from what I know, this game was not made by Sonic Team, but rather by Sonic community managers team (i.e. people who post Sonic memes on Twitter), in their spare time from work. It came at little to no expense from either Sonic Team or SEGA. It's basically a fun little almost-fan-game that they did for no monetary gain, just like actual fan-games.

Yeah, I really thought this game was cute and inoffensive. I liked the art style, I liked the story, I liked the gameplay even though I wasn't any good at it. It was just fun. And for a free April Fool's game, you can't really ask for much more than that, I don't think. I did think that the characters were written in their modern senses, which made me just a bit sad, but hey, Blaze is the princess from the Sol Dimension here, rather than just being vaguely here, so I appreciated that.

Big's Big Fishing Adventure 3 walked so The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog could run. So aside from just being "omg deepcut reference" I think the knuckles hat is a neat idea cus most sonic characters have ears or hair or bangs but knuckles is pretty coneheaded so the hat makes his head just a lil more interesting besides the locks. He doesn't need it all the time but for a "dress fancy" occasion it makes total sense that knuckles on his floating ass island would be like "uh...I got this hat is that fancy?"

Very nice seeing a let's play from you! I think the video title could use some work, as it doesn't really indicate that it's a let's play very well, however. It can definitely be awkward at first, as it's hard to remember to say everything you're thinking, and I even STILL have a problem with having to edit out stretches of silence in my own let's plays, but with some practice, you can certainly get the hang of it! I hope we see more of this kind of stuff from you in the future, especially as more Sonic games come out! I think the developers said in an interview that the reason they didn't include Charmy or Cream is because of the murder mystery premise. Even as a game between friends, maybe Amy & friends were just worried it would be too intense for them or something. I'm not sure why Shadow participating in a party like this is so out of character for him. I mean... do we really even know his character? Sure he's a GUN agent and all but what does he do in his free time? I think he would have to be the "teenage edgelord" a lot of people depict him as for him to... not have friends. So Shadow being friends with the rest of the cast feels fine to me, personally. Especially Amy, now that I think about it. Like sure, Shadow probably doesn't have memories of SA2, but Amy does, and Amy definitely feels like she'd be persistent enough to still try to be friends with him. It's a shame you didn't stick around past the credits, there's a little post-credits scene that I thought was adorable. Favorite part of the game, honestly! But either way, very glad I got to see your thoughts on the game! I was wondering what someone as invested in the lore as you would think. Shame there wasn't much of a comment on the "Eggman took over the train system for many years" thing.

Well, I'm not surprised the characterization was a bit iffy with Knuckles and Shadow. Ian Mutchler is a decent writer, but sometimes he struggles with character quirks for the sake of a gag. Back when the second IDW annual came out, Twitter ("surprise") got a bit heated with the way he wrote Jet the Hawk. I didn't took the discourse seriously because Jet is not a serious character like Shadow is, and I took it as another "folks are mad a character with funny traits is the butt of a joke" like it happens with Knuckles occasionally. But hey, nothing here is offensive, so this time I don't have to see debates on my timeline.

As a character who's barely ever even talked to Amy. The only real conversation that they've had was the one in SA2, which Shadow would not care about, if he even remembers it. And besides that, Shadow is a character that's all business. I don't think he'd bother with parties unless he was compelled to, or it was for someone he cared about. It would be like asking Vergil to go to Trish's birthday in DMC. He's just not the type of character.

I really like the use of the bassoon in the music, very much feels like Thomas & Friends since the game takes place on the train. Definitely intentional, the 6 year old in me is very happy :) Overall I really like this game, it feels a lot like one of those cheap handheld spinoffs we'd get during the Dark Age, like Battle, Pinball Party, or Chronicles. Even down to the story and the climax, it really feels like a Sonic game that just so happens to be a visual novel, it's fantastic! Now, other than the dialogue, I think Shadow's inclusion is perfectly in character. For so long he's just been not-Vegeta, angry and violent. But, up until Generations, Shadow was pretty chill. Even going all out removing his Inhibitor Rings trying to kill Mephiles at the end of his story in 06, he's spitting a badass line, not yelling like a Super Saiyan. So, Shadow's a bro, and it seems like the lore-unification carried out by Ian Flynn and the US team is finally causing that aspect of him to come back to the surface. My only real gripe, one thing I REALLY don't like, is that Espio's ability to turn invisible is just COMPLETELY ignored in terms of an ability he could have used to "kill" Sonic- yet he DOES vanish later on closer to the climax. It's super weird.

The persona thing is really on the surface level. Take Shadow for example, buying tickets for Amy has zero relation to his role as a locksmith, and nonetheless he still addresses others by name even after the mystery is over. Yeah it would be real convenient if everyone just brushed it off as "non canon y so serious", but clearly people aren't going to give up their idolized perception of Shadow being represented as canon.

Sonic has had VN stuff in his ACTUAL GAMES by ST for a long time so this is a little more huge than I feel many realize(& IT IS FREE). I do have issues wit how some of the characters R written. I didn't see any other comments saying so, but just in case you weren't aware, the main character is canonically non binary which is why they're always referred to with they/them pronouns^^
