Let's Paint a Beautifully Sculpted and Highly Detailed 3D Printed Viking Warrior (1/10 scale)

Hey folks! Following the Panther G build with full crew and interior, I was feeling a need to practice up on figure painting. I've gotten into 3D printing this year with plans to enhance my tank models but then I came into the world of figure painting and think it works so well with armor modelling. So today we are going to be practicing our figure modeling with a beautiful viking warrior in 1/10 scale complete with a base!

Good job. I believe Santa is bringing me a WWI Fokker which comes with a 1/10 resin bust of the Red Barron, by Meng. Painting that will be new ground for me so I am paying close attention to your larger scale figure demos!

Thank you! I've always built plastic kits in my past but recently got into 3D printing and discovered these amazing sculpts and found that they are a nice break between armor modelling

Wait, what on earth are you using to mask?

I used some masking putty. I use it on my tanks for camo patterns and thought I'd try it out in a figure.

@@relentlesstorm I didn't know there was putting specifically designed for masking. I've been using silly putty, it works well but could be better. Great video! Looking forward to more stuff like this!

Please excuse my impoliteness, from painting the skin color I understood two things: primer, purple and red. Next you apply the base skin tones, but in theory they overlap each other or am I wrong? Also, please explain to me, if I want to achieve a pink skin tone, what should I do? Help with advice please

The colors do overlap but the paints are thinned down and airbrushed so you don't cover the bottom layers completely. Essentially the pink acts to brighten the skin tones on top and the dark red gives a more natural shadow than just black primer. Check out some of my other figure videos where I show this in a bit more detail. I use a very similar technique for small figures as well. The technique works for brush painting as you can see in my latest Sherman video where I painted a 1/35 scale face. The trick is thinning your paint and spraying light coats to get a natural transition of colors.
