A quick fix for keeping the warm air in the garage would be to hang a few thick drapes or rugs right next to the garage door. Open the garage door so the drapes covers the entire entrance and have a slit somewhere in them so you can push your way through with the gear.

Just wanted to write the same thing. Some thick fabric from ceiling to floor arround the garage door on the inside to limit the issue. You were faster than me.

I worked in a studio in NY that had the same garage door problem and we used a PVC strip curtain door to keep the cold air out of the office area. It’s basically a giant thick shower curtain but it is cut into like 6 inch strips so you can walk though it. Worked pretty well.

It has been -35C here where I live (Norway), and I have been "shooting" in -25C at least at two occasions. I am impressed that the gear works (well, the ZWO Autofocuser is not happy below -20C). Yesterday it went from -22C to +4C! And rain instead of snow blizzards. It feels almost warm going out this night to shoot some more. 😂 The weather is not as it used to be when I was a boy (a long time ago). Hope we all can get some decent conditions/clear skies from now on. Always inspiring to see your content Trevor! 😍

Here in central europe was only like -13°C at night. I tried to cool my camera to -40°C and cooler was only running like on 50% power, not sure if it made any difference but I tried 😂 When examining dark frames from -10 and -40 i could definitely see less hot pixels. Biggest issue was (like always) Asiair wifi connection, i looked like freezing weather made it worse 😂

I feel your pain on the weather this year. It's been an almost complete washout for me since like last spring with very few reliably clear skies. All too many times I've set up only for clouds to rush in after a few mins of capturing. Here's hoping for a better year this time around.

Great result! From Minnesota I know what you mean about the cold weather. This season I got some glove/mittens where the gloves have open fingers and you can close the mitten over the fingers and also got thin "smart phone gloves" that fit inside those so if I need the dexterity or touch screen usage I can open those without fully exposing my fingers. Also plenty of hand warmers!

Re cold rushing in via garage door. You might try installing thick clear plastic strips (on the outside so they don’t interfere with the door or install them inside on a movable rack). This will block the cold. Same technology used in some walk-in freezers.

Nice video and final image! This winter, I've also been shooting the rosette in narrowband, but I've been doing a 2 panel mosaic to get the same field of view as you. I'm just missing the last bit of OIII data, but this weather has just been awful, no imaging for a month! PS if you're looking for advice on videos to do during cloudy weather, please make one on creating such a good horizon image in stellarium. Mine is kinda warped and I can't eliminate the background sky through a lot of the trees. Thanks!

Nice video Trevor! I too own an EQ6R alongside a 130PDS, so a little less heavier than you rig. It sleeps outside under a shell with a protection bag on it and I carry it for few meters each time I go out, having the rig set. Makes it super easy to start a session an increase a lot my imaging time. One thing I noticed is that you had the clutches engaged when you move it and I was told that it could damage the rig (putting pressure and weight when balancing it around). To avoid this I just disengage the clutches - the scope is balanced anyway so it does not move much and this way I am sure it doesn't damage anything. I trust you've done this back & forth much more than I did but it might worth a try :)

Hi! Thanks for all the tuition and encouragement over the years. Here's an ASIAIR tip for continuing previous sessions. Keep a sub of each target stored on the ASAIR. From Preview, Image Management, load a sub and goto. It will goto the target and report any wrong rotation and how many degrees CW or CCW to align with the old sub. With a manual rotator on the OTA, you can rotate and refresh as necessary to get back into alignment for another session on the same target. I also mount the mobile device on a tripod for polar alignment.

You could make a platform for the scope to sit on that can be wheeled in and out of the garage. Make it so all your tripod scopes can be put onto the platform. Maybe to stop the cold air coming in is to have an inner and outer door inside the garage so you can place the scope in between the doors. When one is closed the other can be opened and no cold air allowed in.

Just a thought with your cold air problem with the rear garage door, would you consider putting on an airlock? A 2 m deep screen enclosure extension at that rear garage door, with plastic barrier during the winter, would drastically reduce the volume of air exchange in your garage. Love your videos

Brilliant image Trevor! Congrats. I had to do a double take of you using PixInsight haha😊. It is worth it though especially all of the add-ons from Russell Cromin and Bill Blanshan - also GraXpert is awesome. You can do all that in PS but it would take forever. I still do a lot of Photoshop stuff like you though. I have matched up diffrent FOV images where I ended up using the RGB stars for most of the image but used the NB stars for the part that was not covered by the RGB stars - although it was not as big as an area as as you had. Cheers Kurt

Trevor I think I see or dont see the problem. That sky pod isn’t deployed :) Though seriously gloves with pockets on the back side of the hand and some hand warmers and your hands will feel pretty warm as long as they’re not being blown away by the wind. I’ve had the same issues, clear too windy, cold, and clouds, and usually being on the dry side of the Rockies at 7k feet we get these beautiful dry calm nights where the sky is clear. There’s also those nights it starts cloudy I dont pull the satellite imagery, go watch a movie or play a game and come out and it’s stupid late and the sky is clear and I’m just too tired lol. I see my own sky pod in the future. I’m a big computer nerd so automating it all is on my list.

Be curious to see how the stars that result from a Spectrographic color calibration (with the emphasis on star correction) on the narrow band image would compare to the RGB stars? You could potentially get nice tight color corrected NB star profiles. Work flow would involve removing the SPCC color corrected stars (the nebula will probably turn green), playing with the nebula colours etc. then adding those SPCC corrected stars back in perhaps using the ~((~Image)*(~Image_stars)) formula in pixel math. The Image in this formula is the starless image that you’ve tweaked etc. and the Image_stars are the extracted SPCC corrected stars.
