Despite what Hollywood would have you believe, human sized air ducts aren't particularly common, even in the US. And even if the duct is human sized it doesn't mean that it can support a human's weight as the ducts are generally made of low gauge galvanized steel and suspended to a drop ceiling from the actual ceiling by relatively low tensile strength wire. Meaning a human going into one of these ducts while likely quickly find themselves along with a portion of the drop ceiling and duct lying in a broken pile on the floor.

And yes, that first wait for the tram after Axel gets killed is great on the second play through. I was so sure the devs just had a nice sound scape running and there was no *actual* Alien that I mindlessly sprinted up and down the room, thinking of something else while waiting. Suddenly the bugger dropped *right* in front of me. A lot of areas that seem safe at first just depend on the difficulty level, amount of noise you make and time you spend there. They even play mind tricks with you - if you expose yourself to the sight of the Alien, it is more likely to go away than if you hide under a table and stare at the ground.

The scenes in the original Alien with Jonesy were incredibly tense for me since he looks EXACTLY like my cat. I was perfectly fine with all the humans getting killed off, but leave Jonesy out of it.

Loving that you chose AI for a let's play and can't wait to experience all the yelps alongside you two. Always save whenever you see a new save point, but remember to be careful not to do it when the xenomorph could ambush you or you've basically ruined your game if the xenomorph kills you right after you saved. Alien Isolation is the scariest game I've played and like Aoife, I had to take breaks. My heart rate was through the roof, palms were sweaty and I was so scared that I had a cold sweat while playing. I really want to play it again but I'm not sure I can since it made me so stressed out the first time. Glad to see in the comments that I wasn't the only one shouting Ron Perlman's name at the screen.

So, you have now got as far as I got in 3 hours of play in your first ep. In my defence I thought the Alien was out as soon as the game started, so was creeping around slowly on the first ship needlessly. Then I thought the Alien was out as soon as I arrived on the station, so was being really cautious with lots of safety crouching. Thanks to you, once again I shall see parts of a game I never got to myself.

The large vents make a certain amount of sense on a space station as a alternative path for engineers to get around a malfunctioning hatch or other blockage in the primary path.

Yes, and this is the primary reason for their inclusion in so much sci-fi, such as the Jefferies Tubes in Star Trek. Life is all round better with traversable shafts.

My favorite thing about Resurrection is there's a scene where Ripley like, without looking throws a basketball through a hoop, and then it cuts to something else, and if I remember right part of the reason there's a semi-abrupt cut is because Sigourney Weaver actually did that in one go and Ron Perlman almost immediately lost it. I saw part of Covenant (like, part of the very early beginning) and immediately noped out because it was freaking me out and not in a good horror movie way (I later yelled at my dad for putting it on & immediately leaving to go do shit in his office because What the Fuck) but I saw Prometheus in theaters when it first came out (but after everyone now knew it was an Alien-related movie). My stance on Prometheus has usually been it's not a half-bad alien/sci-fi horror-ish movie, but it's a shit Alien movie. But also I haven't watched it since so who knows what I think of it.

Difference between the SoulsBorne games and this is that no matter how hard its possible to face the enemy and beat it. This game doesn't offer that. The enemy is large, imposing and impossible to defeat, you can hide, run or distract but not defeat. That aspect makes it so much more of a different game than a action horror RPG.

Space puke fact. Astronauts fit into three categories and are pretty evenly spaced. One third are fine. One third get a bit sick. One third get violently sick when they experience zero g. It happens the same reason as sea sickness disparity between vision and balance centre. But in zero g that balance centre is screwed so yeah astronauts get violently seasick

Even as a kid growing up in the U.S. I wondered who the heck had vents as big as the ones in the movies. I mean, all the vents I've ever seen are about big enough for... maybe squirrels?... and not much else. At least in a space station it makes sense to have maintenance tunnels big enough for humans to access the interior. Still... there are an awful lot of those tunnels in this game.

Ripley and the xenomorph can't be Disney princesses because there's no Disney or Pixar animated features of them (that i know of)... Same for Leia, although she meets all other requirements. The xenomorph is also disqualified by not being human enough. Ariel gets a pass for being close as did Tinkerbell for the brief period where she was one, until she became part of the fairies line-up. Anna and Elsa meet all the requirements, but they make so much money already that shoehorning them into the princess line-up wont happen till the Frozen money stops rolling in.

I've heard that Apollo 11's computers were less powerful than today's average pocket calculator, and apparently it only had a 64KB memory. I've wanted to be an astronaut my whole life and that still sounds damn terrifying. ALSO: you do need a lot of ventilation on spaceships, at least in weightlessness, because of potential skin particle buildup. I doubt the vents are that big, though.

For a Let's Play,I don't know if this is necessarily something that you'd want (can't play with headphones for example) but I found that the game was far more immersive, scarier and foreboding when I played it on Easy. On Normal I found the alien appeared fairly frequently to the point where it stopped being scary, and just started being tedious, while on Hard it was basically just humping your leg the entire time. On Easy, it'll still show up if you're noisy and it'll still kill you in one shot/attack through the flamethrower, but it didn't show up frequently forcing you to hide. Instead, the game sort of gives you a longer leash and it builds the tension to a far greater effect. It felt more like what I wanted out of an Alien game. I dunno...I remember seeing other people have similar experiences when they played it when the game came out so I have no idea if that changed with updates but thought I'd throw that out there. Hope you guys play through the whole thing as it's definitely one of my top 3 horror games.

Do you guys have the PS4 eye or what ever the camera is? If you turn it on while playing, it will track your movement and volume so if you are loud (irl) while hiding the alien will find you.

Especially the two newer ones....Alien Covenant is the most depressing cliffhanger I've ever seen, I think...Alien 3 was very Terminator 2-ish regarding the ending.
