"Kurt Zisa" at least sounds like a fantasy name. It's got hard sounds at the start and a hissing susurration that, if you don't realize it a real kid's real name, sounds like it was made for a desert bandit. I can absolutely imagine a character named Kurt Zisa showing up in the Aladdin cartoon. Now imagine a world where a different kid was selected and the monster's name was Michelle Goodman.

The secret boss fight over the House of Parliament is so wild to me. Goofy and a sword wielding child flying around Big Ben as a phantom casts a spell of Doom on Peter Pan. It's a fever dream.

It's so rare in the Kingdom Hearts series that the actual backdrop is part of the battle, so the Phantom fight I always loved in concept cuz using Big Ben as a DOOM CLOCK is just so fucking cool, even if this boss fight is kinda rough. Also yes, Peter Pan is now public domain so while the Great Ormond's Street Children's Hospital no longer can uphold that charity contract, most people still give a part of their earnings of Peter Pan-related productions to the hospital as a gentleman's agreement. Disney however never have, because they're Fuckers In Court.

I think when I was a kid I managed to figure out that the different colors meant I was supposed to cast different spells, but I never figured out that I was supposed to cast Stop on the clock to stop Doom.

Kurt Zisa has always had a special place in my heart, design-wise. I look forward to whatever other secret bosses the Final Mix added. Although I don't remember Kurt giving a special move in the PS2 version back when I played.

I could be wrong, because I haven't fought Phantom in a LONG time, but I'm pretty sure the clock is the one thing in the game that lets you refresh its stop counter without it having to run out.

Had so much trouble with Kurt Zisa until I learned how to snap off a tinker bell summon in the first few seconds of the fight. Wonder if they changed it in Final Mix to disallow that.

Nope, they kept that. Kingdom Hearts 1 generally tries to encourage player creativity in how they approach fights and will sometimes give bosses exaggerated weaknesses to things that most people wouldn't think to use on them.

My entrance to KH was Chain Of Memories for the GBA, so when I read up on the original game and saw that there's a superboss called "Phantom", I thought that they put a version of The Phantom Blot (a character mainly from the Italian Disney comics but who has made appearances on DuckTales and some Mickey shorts) in the game. Gotta say, I was at least a little disappointed finding out a little later that it was just a random Grim Reaper Heartless design.

Kurt motherfucking Ziza. That guy was the bane of my existence. The trick though, is to either get Tinkerbell out before the first Magic Seal hits, or during the second phase, in preparation for the Third phase. ESPECIALLY if you're doing Sword+, Shield- runs.

I believe the Japanese and English releases of the game have the same amount of Ansem Reports, but they number them differently. In Japanese the numbering starts at 0, but in English it starts at 1, which funnily resulted in the English version of 2 not catching this somehow, and making a reference to a Report 0

"Donald and Goofy cannot handle [INSERT BONUS BOSS HERE], they are going to die" is a pretty good rule of thumb for bonus bosses in the series. Phantom is a neat concept, and a cool setpiece, but the execution is kinda lacking, yeah. Once you get it down it's just long. Kurt Zisa however fuckin whips, a highlight of the whole game honestly, love its gimmicks testing you on most of your tools, A+, no notes.

The Phantom is pretty easy honestly, outside of the doom counter it only really has 2 attacks and they're not threatening, Kurt Zisa I haven't beaten till recently and that's only because I decided to get the ultima weapon and because of that over leveled (The recommended level is like around 60, Yeah good fucking luck) I've also heard it referred to as "desert weapon." a pretty cute final fantasy weapon and also I do love how this series does the cute thing is actually fucked up in lore thing (Ahem dream eaters)
