This is a tutorial and partial playthrough of the solo wargame Midway Solitaire (Deluxe Edition). Designed by Joseph Miranda, it is published by Decision Games. The game covers the Japanese campaigns of April-June 1942 of the Pacific Theater of WW2. The game was originally published in World at War magazine issue #54.

I like the FoW aspects. Carrier! had this, but was a LOT more complicated.

Absolutely Eugenio. Technically yes, although I'm not sure how important it really is. Unless you cheat and count them yourself to figure out which ones you haven't drawn yet (although that also requires knowing exactly the # of each operation and comparing them). If you're going to spend that much effort cheating then why the hell are you playing a solitaire game?

Why did the IJN TF retreat from the Aleutions at ~52min mark? 6.1.7 rules only cover if each side has a TF in the same space - is that supposed to also apply for a TF & CD unit? Maybe I missed a rule somewhere...

Might have been more instructive after a few turns of getting us used to gameplay to cut to a big battle and just run through that, but OTW a good effort. Thanks.

First attack on Midway, the CV and CVL fighters (range 4) could have escorted for the bomber that was already there, no?

No, Fighters only Escort Bombers from their own base or carrier. Since those fighters came from different carriers, they would only possibly fly CAP.

First attack in Alutians with the Surface Fleet, why didn't the Japanese surface fleet CA get a shot at the Coastal Defense? Did you miss that?

Nope, didn't miss it. Naval units do not attack Ground units (like the Coastal Defense) unless there is an Amphibious Assault taking place. That only occurs if the Japanese have a TR unit (troop transport) in the area at the time of the battle.
