As annoying as it is that you have to pay extra for it, a little while into the Isle of Armor you gain the ability to make your current Pokémon Gigantamax. So you get to keep your old team mates while letting them have their new forms. Also, really glad to see this series continue!

i have a shiny manectric that i caught in emerald and have brought it up through all the games (collecting all the ribbons along the way), and that is indeed insane. For me it makes it feel like there's no wasted effort when i'm playing any of the pokemon games because i can just pay my effort in one game forward to the next
