Loved 1. Haven’t played 2 yet. Is it a prequel but named 2? That’s confusing. I’ve heard it’s great.

Red Dead Redemption (2010) was set in 1911 within the fictional States of New Austin and West Elizabeth. Great Plains where Blackwater was located and Tall Trees. Meanwhile Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) is set in 1899 and follows a completely new character set right after the failed Ferry Job in Blackwater, a job that was brought up a few times in the original game but we never got too much information about it. RDR2 also takes place right across the Upper Montana River that cuts through the East end of the map beside Blackwater all the way up to Tall Trees. So it's a massive extention to the original map. So it's a completely new areas like the newly introduced Big Valley region of West Elizabeth based more on Yosemite Valley in Califrona just on the opposite side of the Upper Montana River. There's the new State of New Hanover with regions based on Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota, pretty sure it's also the biggest State in the Game. We have the State of Ambarino where we begin the game, based on Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, Rocky Mountain states. And finally the Southern State of Lemoyne based on Louisiana and even features its own take on New Orleans known as Saint Denis. So for anyone who has played RDR1 you'd know some details like how John was in a gang, failed Ferry job, John was left for dead, The gang fell apart, and of course the fate of certain characters. But 90% of this game is still new from Arthur Morgan to what the game got up to during 1899 to these other members of the gang we had no idea existed. Its a Prequal that holds many surprises. RDR2 also acts as a gateway for people who have never played the original game and honestly I personally believe the first game benefits alot from having new players go through RDR2 first and then play RDR1. So in many ways you can look at RDR2 as the first game in the series.
