Personally I am very happy that so many of the pc games I always wanted but never got to play because I don't have a pc are now on PlayStation. Diablo 2, Neverwinter nights, Baldur's gate 1&2 and Titan quest are all currently installed on my pro. I'm thinking I really maybe will get a pc soon and this virtual machine method is great. If I had the time and patience I would go for old school hardware though. I have a healthy collection of old big box games I would love to play.

I have a windows xp era pc for retro pc gaming but i also use a modern pc and games fixed on gog for modern machines .

I played netmech (Mechwarrior 2) with this when I was in my early teens and I was just remembering how hardcore and dedicated the roleplaying element was with the chatgroups. The clans would have huge announcements and formal battles, and if you missed a battle then they would have to hire a mercenary and you were reemed for missing the fight. Dunno if any of the Steel Viper crew still exist but you guys ROCKED and it was always fun to joke around with the Ghost Bears and taunt the Wolf Clan in chat. It was also great when Unreal first came out and our clan (Rogue Mercenaries) got to play with Cliffy B in a couple of deathmatch games. I think the biggest one though was meeting the lead artist, Jon Bock, who did Sierra's adventure games back in the day.

Thanks for blast to the past. As a kid I did remember fondly playing mechwarrior 2 (not online) and some of the clones like EarthSiege 1 and 2. I forget which game it was but I thought it was fun to blow off the other mech's arm and legs, mechanics like that for its time was awesome.

Ooh nice, I played that too and Mechwarrior 4 although I can't remember if it was through Kali. Played a ton of the original Starcraft with it too.

Me too, I had like a 4 digit number. I used the DOS client, the DOS PPP dial up and IPX>TCP emulator. I'd love to reconnect with some of the old guys. Generally spent much more time in text chat trying to get a game connected, most of us had dial-up modems back then. Some of the names I recall are XCAL, who was a lead singer in some fairly popular metal band, Voyager who was a coder and wrote some neat little programs to start up Duke Nukem games quickly without going through the menus. Just getting everyone into the game and synced up without crashing was a major ordeal.

Netplay for computer/emulator has been popular for years but now someone needs to show how it could be possible to play any "2 player or up" game which can do it on a console without needing the other device or having it plugged in port 2 for the controller, instead the input would be transferred over the internet and if anybody manages to create something like that for the console without even needing a computer in the first place then that'll be a huge project and sadly Parsec is only a PC thing so with homebrew that's the only way this'll be possible (if at all the console has ethernet capabilities)

theres no console solution for a physical real console to do that, only console games with netplay can use a similar trick, games with no netplay can't. consoles are just not as capable as PCs. It would be really cool if you could do that though on a retro console or on a game that doesn't have online play and only has local multiplayer though but it just won't be a thing, on PC however, theres a way to route n64 games through a server for multiplayer, but once again, the PC saves the day here, not the console.

Well some games already have the possibility of netplay for the PS2 if it has the network adapter inside of the expansion bay and on top of that the homebrew programs on the PS2 after the console is softmodded has more options after all things such as OPL or freemcboot are added with more network possibilities and there's tons of mods made for the PS2 too not just games but apps. I don't see why someone couldn't develop it the PS2 already has everything it needs, if for instance the server would be run on a pc and the game would be run on the PS2 with an ELF file PS2 with LaunchElf I don't see why it wouldn't be possible and more and more things are constantly developed for it.

@@Markhoss I can barely think of that many ps2 games that even made use of the network adapter expansion, most of the exclusives didn’t utilize it, meaning mainly games also on Xbox or pc, I can only think of about 7 games that ppl would play that are exclusives with support for it on the ps2, I’d still definitely like to see it done mainly for metal gear solid 3 but a lot of the other games have a better pc port w net play

You don't unfortunately. Use beta 15 anniversary edition OPL that has ps1 support in opl.
