You know I'm going to ask for my money back from Spitfire - I bought this piano library as well and it sounds NOTHING like it does when you demo the software. HAHA!! KIDDING of course. But seriously, you inspire so much with what you do when you do these demos. I LOVE Spitfire Originals and have many of them. They DO good work and you make their efforts all that much better. Plus it's difficult to beat the fair prices they charge for these Originals libraries. And I've grown to trust what you say when you do these demos because you spend so much time sharing both the instruments and your incredible talent and facility for making these instruments sing. And that's another thing - I LOVE when you open YOUR heart in song. Always inspirational, always appropriate for whatever you're talking about and enhanced indeed by using the instruments you demo. Further, while I could spend what's left of my life and I'd never be able to play like you do - but I aspire to, I admire you and you inspire ME for sure to keep trying. Someday maybe if I make it to Heaven, the good Lord will grace me with non-arthritic hands, a talent I only have partially because I spent the last 60 years playing by ear - but not the right way, and give me my voice back that I had when I was in my mid 30's again. I really don't want much do I!! LOL!! Seriously, as a fan of your videos, I appreciate what you share both from the instrument libraries you review, to the Word in song and your inspiring, enthusiastic, positive message and generous heart. There, that's enough!! I hope. But it's the truth as I see it. :o)

The soft and felted pianos are wonderful, but, depending on the composition, are often difficult to mix, big round foggy low ends, as it were. I bought the Intimate Grand and love it. At 29 bucks it is incredible value and offers that softness of the felts but with enough high end brights to sit nicely in a mix. Many thanks for the review.

Logjam, yes, the Intimate Grand only has the softer dynamic layers so it will always have that subdued tone to it. @PraiseTracks

Thanks Greg. So remember Intimate Grand is NOT felted, it is rather played at very soft velocities to provide that close and intimate sound. The reason for Intimate Grand is to push towards a direction outside of producing another felt piano library. This is similar to what VSL has done with their Soft Imperial, to give us an unmuted, I felted piano that still carried with it levels of emotion and expression. Thanks again for watching and for the kind support. Joyfully!🎹

Darth, I am so glad you enjoyed watching. The Studio 88 does not have built in Bluetooth, but I use a Widi Master MIDI to Bluetooth adapter that allows me to use the physical MIDI ports on the controller and send it out wirelessly, it is amazing to see how that works.

Beautiful playing Simeon thank you for demonstrating this one. I'm very excited to have a play of it. Can I ask for your recommendation for a keyboard that has a good velocity touch similar to yours? Having trouble with expression particularly with piano libraries.
@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks 2 жыл бұрын
Peppy, first of all, thank you so much for your kind encouragement. One of the main things to consider when trying to get the most out of any virtual piano is checking the velocity curve of the keyboard and how it is relating to the velocity scaling of the instrument. You will find that if this is not set correctly, most pianos will sound dull and not expressive. It is finding that sweet spot where things feel natural, and you are able to get a full range of dynamics. I have had very good success with Studiologic controllers. Fata the parent company of Studiologic is the manufacturer of a majority of controller keyboards for its in-house brand Studiologic and many others (Arturia, Native Instruments , and others). I have used the SL88: Grand for almost two years and it has been a great experience. The dynamic range of the keyboard is very good. You do have to get used to a little added weight due to the solid wood build of the keyboard itself. I hope that helps and thanks again for the support.

It appears to my ear that the hammers/"realism effects" are predominantly on the right. I found this to be true on Spitfire's demo's. Which, for me, is off-putting. Sure there is global pan - but it affects all. So, if I purchase this, I will be tempted to use it without the "Hammers effect". I love your choice of tunes to demonstrate this otherwise fine instrument and, naturally, your charming style.
@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think it was an interesting choice of mic placement (check my article linked below), especially with the Ribbon and Condenser Mics, the binaural mics of course would give the most accurate image. I always find that the "noises" can be too predominant at times. My thinking is that those sounds, unless you are going for an overly emphasized sound should be felt and not necessarily heard too far out front. Thanks so much for watching along with the kind support. Joyfully!

@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is a difficult decision when there are so many choices out there. I have videos on both Lekko and the Postcard Piano that you might want to check out. There is a LITE version of Postcard Piano in the TASTE package from Audio Ollie, it is currently at $9. You do need the FULL version of Kontakt to use Taste but there are a lot of interesting instruments and possibilities with it. Here is the link: www.audioollie.com/taste Lekko and Postcard have the most undeniable personality about them as their concepts were to create a character upright feel. Intimate Grand Piano being non-felted has a different sound, especially in the attack. Spitfire also sent me the Olafur Arnalds Composer Toolkit which has his signature felted grand piano that I have been enjoying quite a bit. Check out the other videos I mentioned and let me know what you think. I will also try putting some ideas together as well. Thanks for watching. Joyfully, Simeon

Hi Simeon, great playing as always! Very smooth sound. I wonder how would you compare this piano versus the just released free Soft Imperial Piano from VSL?
@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks 2 жыл бұрын
That is a great question. So Soft Imperial is based on an actual "concert" sized grand and you can hear that in the soundstage of the piano, there is a spaciousness to it. For Intimate Grand Piano, you have a smaller Steinway Model A, recorded in a very close and dry environment, so the piano feels closer to you, especially using the binaural microphones.

Are this samples better than the ones you 'll find let's say in a Yamaha P125 or Rolan Fp30?, cause I'm looking for grades hamer action, but if the tone generator is not better than a sampler like this spit fire samples, I might get something less expensive an keep using vst instead
@PraiseTracks
@PraiseTracks Жыл бұрын
Don, this particular piano is what I call a "character" piano in that it is focusing on the softer dynamic range of the piano recorded. That being said you will not get the louder FF ranges only the pp and softer tones, which is fine if that is what you are looking for. I would say that these days a lot of the digital pianos with built in sounds are generally fine but you typically will get more quality of an instrument from a dedicated virtual piano library. When they are putting the digital pianos together, they have to take into consideration so many factors and working at times with strict hardware limitations as far as memory to store the samples. Just think only a few years ago we were talking about entire workstation keyboards containing their full soundsets on only megabytes of memory, now we talk about gigabytes, it is really amazing. I hope that helps, thanks so much for watching.

OK, that would be the reason, as the instrument is getting the same velocity value from the piano roll so it cannot get the varied velocity range data to help tap into the other velocity dynamic layers, so it would not sound very good. Not really, I try not to think about it too much, I focus on what I am experiencing at the time. if things are done properly you should not notice. how does it compare to Midnight grand by fracture sound?

I love Midnight Grand. The pianos are of course different approaches for sure. The Midnight Grand is a larger Steinway and it is felted. You get a lovely microphone perspective as well as the processed layers, so it has a lot going for it. Where Intimate Grand shines is the simplicity and closeness of the sound of the piano, along with the three distinctive microphone positions, and the piano is NOT felted. I hope that helps. I did a video on the Midnight Grand that is on the channel, take a look as it might help provide a little more information.

Can you give me a little more information? Are you talking about the mechanical piano sounds? Thanks for watching.
