Just greatly enjoyable watching you two play. I had my doubts about the bucket of dice skirmish but my grandsons will love this so I got the starter and the heroes sets. Any reason I couldn't put the SPQR lads on square bases for my early Imperials campaigns against Gaul and the Goths? That is, and still play SPQR players without offense? Also, the slingers were great, but what is up with the Romans? No cavalry - no archers - no ballista? With the Spartans Gerry may as well put a Bolt Action Panzer on his side and save all the fiddly warrior moves....Are there trays for larger games yet?

Strategy question with you guys. Is it better to have smaller units but more of them, say 2-3 units of 8 hoplites or legionaries or go for the 10 men (maybe 12-13 for losses) to get shield wall and phalanx? Obviously i am referring to smaller point games from 500-750?
@rogerolle49063 жыл бұрын
Well I now I’m late, sry for that. I would say that it depends of two factors. The first of them being the terrain, if it allows you to stay in the defensive, then I would choose a bigger unit. However, if the terrain is more plain I would go with smaller units for not being attacked at the flanks and have more flexibility. The other factor is the forces that your opponent has, in a skirmish game like SPQR flexibility is one of the keys to victory so if the enemy has more units than you I would recommend splitting your forces for for again avoid getting attacked at the flanks. Hope this helps :)

Is the assumed facing 360? Something about a unit taking fire from it's rear arc still getting parries doesn't feel right to me. Still an interesting system and I'm enjoying watching these.

Are we going to see the 'Clash of Heroes' game. I'm pretty invested now and want to witness Rome crumble before the might of Sparta.

dont understand how the campaign is ever going to grow in size this way, getting 25 or 30% of a warband at 500 is only ever going to be 125-150 denarii, minus mercs. and youre nearly losing 50% of your force a battle (most battles will see one side "killed" and then fail half their post battle survival rolls) so youre clinging on every time. So you lose (roughly) 50% denarii, and gain 25 or 30 back...

@Gerry mcCabe That's made it a little clearer, thanks, I did read the rulebook part about that but didn't understand it entirely, definitely going to be following this series closely as i thought the idea was to grow your warband as well as your hero, but interested to see how it turns out after a few more battles. Also have you done any larger (1500-2000) Denarii games yet, hoping to play some soon but havent had time, i think it'll come into its own when there are enough points to play with to make some big choices and tactics (hammer and anvil, pincer etc)

I havent completely made it through this video, but I know in the first game it seemed like at the end of the game they rolled for injury on models removed as casualties AND models removed for failing Will to Fight checks. Per the rules, models who fail Will to Fight checks automatically rejoin your warband roster at the end of the game without needing an injury roll. I think because of this, we're seeing more "dead" models than we should be seeing - which accounts for why the warbands have a hard time growing at all.

Is this after the SPQR engoodening update? I have the original rulebook pdf from 2017 and there aren't any flanking rules. Also, you folks are rolling around 1/15,000,000 of the dice that my Spartan warband rolls when attacking, making me think that they fixed the "gallons of dice" problem with the game. This actually looks....fun.

Anyone know what table size this game is meant for? I cant tell if this works with 3 by 3 table space or not.
@JedrekVRoscoe5 жыл бұрын
The standard intended table size is 4’ x 4’, but this is just the recommended size. 3’ x 3’ can support smaller games, and 4’ x 6’ for larger games.

What an absolute rubbish game system, to tactics, no maneuvres, just roll buckets of dice at each other.
@SuperNapoleon0075 жыл бұрын
seems like romans could do nothing in melee spartans seem a bit over the top in melee and with phalanx nothing u can do really. seems like this scenario was just auto win for spartans no tactical movement or choices just move move move kill and win ez game
