many years ago when i play this misison on a demo CD from pcgamer. i was simply amazed about this star trek armada as an RTS. then i buy this game and beat most of the missions and play a lot on the skirmish maps. it was fun. i also got star trek armada 2 as a xmas gift. that one was cool. too bad there is no more star trek rts games.

I got it from the guy who designed it, this is copied direct from Memory Alpha: "In parts of his Nemecek interview that were published in Star Trek: The Magazine, designer Alex Jaeger stated that he created the Akira as a sort of "carrier/gunship," armed with fifteen torpedo launchers. Visual inspection of the hull and design drawings show all fifteen: ten on the ships weapons pod, one forward torpedo launcher over the deflector dish and also four flanking torpedo launchers on the saucer.[1]

Continued: ""This was my gunship/battlecruiser/aircraft carrier. It has 15 torpedo launchers and two shuttlebays - one in front, with three doors, and one in the back. I really got into it with this one, with the whole idea that the front bay would be the launching bay, and then to return they'd come into the back, because they'd be protected by the rest of the ship." Considering the ship's type or specs have never been mentioned on screen I'll go with the desinger thanks

@Kinyar22 Thanks for that, this LP is actually being done on my windows 7 laptop as my Windows XP desktop has a Geforce 8600GTS and for some reason no-one has been able to fix that causes massive graphical tearing and makes the game unplayable. It was certainly slow and frustrating at times on Windows 7 but it did allow me to complete the game

Nope, I am basing it off what the guy who designed the damn thing actually said and since the Akira has actually had almost no on-screen appearances except in battle I'll go with his opinion Although in the classes defense it does have my favourite name of any ship ever and that's the USS Thunderchild from First Contact (Well War of the Worlds for the name but still awesome)

Just before the emergency call cutscene you see an expanding circle at the spot where the Premonition appears. Right-click at it and you go at warp towards him. When the cutscene ends you're right at the spot. But be fast with the clicking.

I loved this game. I play the hell out of it. I also had armada 2 but I foolishly let someone borrow it and then I've never seen him again, so I'm pretty upset about that.

the Armada second one is my faw star trek game , my only complaint on even the 2nd one is the lack of 8472, Romulan, and Kardasian campaign. this is one of the best games out there its shame it got not enough attention and love from the fans. Activision is a grate company with many good quality games

Klingon Academy is still a good play, especially now that the community fixed it to run smooth on Modern systems. . . and the live action cinematics can hardly look dated... although a release of a remaster would be nice...

Hi there. No I played ST Armada on a Windows 7 laptop. (I think I had to do some twesaking to it (compatability mode) and it wasn't very stable especailyl when there was a lot of stuff in the level (the final level crashed about 30 times, had to save every 1-2 minutes) but it did work. Armada II I am playing on XP.

man I miss this game. I bought it many times (the disk kept getting lost / broken) but the last time I bought it ended up costing me like 100 bucks so after that disk got too scratched up was no more armada for me =(. But glad tis a mod for armada 2 now (Star Trek Armada: Fleet Operations) which is awesome and a true successor to this game.

Paramount has made it clear that they are done with the 'Prime' timeline for the moment, as as long as Abrams has the reins, Star Trek will stay on the silver screen and most likely in the Abramsverse. The 'Prime' timeline, on the other hand, is apparently being relegated to the novels and the Star Trek: Online MMORPG.

Not unless Activision decides to 'get the band back together'. Even if that DID happen, I doubt Patrick Stewart would be on board with it; I think his days of playing Jean-Luc Picard are over. I would imagine that there were plans for a sequel to Armada II on the drawing board at one point, but the lawsuit in 03 probably scuttled any chance they had at seeing the light of day.

I do not recall ever seeing anything about the Akira-class being a carrier of any sort in the canon. Are you basing that off of the battle scenes from the Dominion War episodes of Deep Space Nine?

If you want to take over all the Jem'Hadar ships in the Area. send the Enterprise in the upper left Corner, there is a blue Nebula and build your Starbase and the Dilithium Mining Station. The Jem'Hadar will fly into the Nebula and now you can board them one by one without any risk. recrew of your ships before you take over the the last Jem'Hadar attack Ship. if you play Armada on Difficulty level Hard these damn things kill 4 up to 6 % of there targetet Ship or Station per shot

It certainly did, it was unique for its time, full voice acting from the original cast was extremely rare, hell even the ability to play in 480p was top tech at the time and the story was compelling and the game didn't really suffer too badly from "failure states" like many adventure games did (although there were one or two) To be honest, it's still my favourite of every Trek game I've ever played, no other game has managed to capture the true sense of stakes or Star Trek AFU did without having some sort of BS ending (The AFU ending made 100% sense, redeemed a previous antagonist (2 if you played correctly) and made sure there was no Deus Ex Machina where you managed to find a random weakness in something capable of galaxy spanning destruction)

It's running on Windows 7 here, it wouldn't work on my XP PC due to graphical tearing but it did work on 7 for the LP

Doubtful. Activision dropeed the Trek license and sued Viacom in early 2003 for 'letting the once-proud Star Trek franchise stagnate' (which was kind of true, IMO). Mad Doc Software still exists, and they worked on Star Trek: Legacy, but that is it as far as their involvement with Trek gaming. Last time I checked, Bioware had the Trek gaming license, but as yet hasn't done anything with it. If they do, it will probably be tying in with Abramsverse and not the 'Prime' universe/timeline.

I think he's basing it on his imagination, the Akira has a module on the back that CAN be fitted as a torpedo bay but they are mosty used in the exact role this game has them in...

Problem is that it's in the same sandbox as Starcraft, Warcraft and C&C all of which are better games so I can't really call the game objectively "great" Now if you're talking "great" on a personal subjective level, I enjoyed it a ton, still replay it and it's part of a franchise I've followed most of my life so, yeah, probably

Where on EARTH did you get that nonsense about Akira's being carriers/torpedo cruisers? They have a torpedo module on the back giving them a bit more torpedo firepower than most ships of that size but your interpretation of 'the canon' is just plain wrong...
