Just to follow up on this excellent video, White Dog did listen to us so the game has shipped with a larger map for quite some time now, FYI.

That's awesome of them, big thumbs up to White Dog Games. They have listened to feedback from people before, which is something not every publisher does well.

10:00 -- Ebionites are a special rule, they don't deploy randomly (rule 6.5.2). 16:10 -- When Paul dies, he should be replaced immediately by a Bishop on top of his Relics (rule 7.1.1, 4th paragraph); ditto Jude at 19:30 and the others. Oops! I see you caught this later on. :-) Get a different red die, you're having awful luck with that die! 44:30 -- Remember when a Theologian fails, it raises the Dark Ages marker by +1. Very cool to see the game in action -- you do a good job showing how many options the player has, and how strategy is important from the very outset of the game. The game is deceptively simple! I think you've given a tantalizing view of the game for beginners, and your summation really does a great job showing the grand sweep of history reflected in this game.

Great stuff! I'd like to think my video is a good introduction to a diverse game. Let people see the basic mechanics, and give them a chance to learn the later aspects (ie barbarian hordes) and indepth strategies on their own.

**Found the answer on BGG. I AM playing wrong you follow policy every time. ** I read the rules that you only “follow” Roman Policy if the wafer has the red spot and you flip the policy tile. Am I getting that wrong? Also I LOVE this game. Reminds me a tiny bit of Commisioned by Chara Games but much more detailed and strategic.

Thank you! I bought this and will be playing with some friends soon. We'll take turns and play it as a Coop game. The unique rules for each person will take a bit of learning but add to the historical theme and hope that will be good for replay variety.

Excellent playthrough preview, I would have never thought I could be interested by this topic but what a compelling game design !

Thank you Marc. It's a very interesting game. Certainly not a wargame by traditional standards, but don't let that stop you from checking it out.

@@WayneHansen just to say that I purchased the game after watching your playthrough, this is my first game ever from Ben Madison & White Dog and I absolutely love it ! Thank you for posting such insightful videos

Excellent! I really enjoyed revisiting this game via your video. The Mission should appeal to all gamers, whether they are religious or not - the design is a historical banquet! Steve

Steve, you are absolutely right. It's a very uniquely themed game and full of history.

I purchased this off the back of yours and Hair Brained Games reviews. Its great to discover new games that were not even on my radar. Thanks! :-) Im in the UK and Im yet to see a shipping date, im also still waiting for Stilicho, but its on the way as I type... Im glad you didnt go too far into the game, the first few turns was enough to know I like the mechanics and im looking forward to exploring the rest myself. Plus, the artwork is amazing. I want to see more games look like this!

Thanks Howard, I like hearing my videos helped someone make a decision on getting a game. It's a gem of a game from an overlooked publisher, that's for sure.

Interesting simulation, thanks for the video. Far too rules heavy for me but glad people are making games on this subject.

Thats Wayne, this like many of R. B Madison's other games looks excellent. What I will say about this one over some of the others is that the art/graphic design looks fantastic!
@WayneHansen4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the art/graphics can be a little hit or miss (think Jeff Davis for a miss there... great game, but not great artwork) depending on the game, but this one knocks it out of the park with the graphical design.

Excellent. Will soon pick up a copy for myself. Only wish there was a canvas map available as with some of the Hollandspiele games.
@WayneHansen3 жыл бұрын
Perry, there may not be a canvas map, but White Dog Games actually increased the size of the map/board after getting feedback! So every game now comes with an "XL" map! That will help a lot, as one of my criticisms was the map gets crowded.

Hi Wayne thanks for the playthrough Still not sure about this one did not out and out grab me straight away like stilicho but i will watch again and see Ps still waiting on stilicho in the UK 😕 Have you tried Donning the purple solo yet ? And if its not hard enough add in the votes and vurtue extension with senate vote and weather that ramps it up again great fun though
@WayneHansen4 жыл бұрын
Hey if a game doesn't grab you, it doesn't grab you. Certainly I don't enjoy every single game I play... and most of the ones that I don't have an interest in to begin with, I never pick up in the first place. Still waiting on Stilicho? Oh that international postage is a bummer! Make sure you tell us what you think about it once it arrives however. As for Donning the Purple, I watched a couple videos, and I'd like to pick it up. Always a big fan of Roman themed games. I'm reading Julius Caesar by Adrian Goldsworthy right now.

@@WayneHansen Haven’t read that book yet just another on a long list of to read books, a bit like my list of games to buy so many items so little money 🤑 I have Just started Ian W Toll 3rd book in his Pacific war trilogy Twilight of the Gods On just the military side of Caesar I would recommend Theodore Ayrault Dodge Book plus his other books on Hannibal and Alexander the Great

Is there a reason you didn't use free movement to push Peter, Thomas, and Barnabas out as far as they could go before being martyred?
@WayneHansen2 жыл бұрын
Not sure Mike. I filmed this video 22 months ago. Poor decision making? Rules mistake? Take your pick and learn from my mistakes 😂
@mikemapa89182 жыл бұрын
@@WayneHansen hahaha, ok, I thought it was a strategy or something 😜 Say, did you ever get to the part with the moving hordes and jihadis? The rules at that point confuse me...the rulebook is very dense and doesn't teach the game very well...
@WayneHansen2 жыл бұрын
Mike, I did but never filmed it. The game changes a bit and it definitely turns into a surprisingly heavier game. Not really heavy, just lots of moving parts. I don't know if you've looked on BGG but there is a lot of content for the game on there. I think some complete playthroughs also.
