This Quar's War is a great miniatures game where the focus is on telling a story as either the Crusaders or the Coftyrans. With an interesting push-you-luck mechanic built into activation and some seriously brutal rules, the miniatures might look cuddly but the game is not!

I always thought the miniatures were interesting in a funny/quirky way but the initiative/action sequence being hidden from the active player is really interesting. It’s also nice seeing Ben in the studio actually playing a game.

It took me only about ten minutes into watching the game before I went to Wargames Atlantic and ordered the game. This one looks like so much fun. Can't wait for mine to arrive. Thanks for the great video.

This. With little things like dudes being knocked down and being tended too, some cimamatic close ups make the bat rep better

I love the game, commentary, and terrain! One small note: in the rules it states that you get -1 To Hit for each FULL range band between you and the target. I would interpret that as distances less than a full range band do not incur the penalty. Otherwise, every shot (even within 2 inches) would incur a range penalty.

Yes, that’s correct. Hence incentive to aim!

@@owenglover4170 So, it's correct that the penalty only applies to FULL range bands (no penalty for under a full range band) or the penalty does apply to incomplete range bands (-1 for 1" to Range, -2 for Range+1 to Rangex2, etc...)? Not trying to split hairs here, but it seems that at very close ranges (under a full band), no penalty should apply (for range at least). Otherwise, a -1 to hit (at minimum) is baked into every ranged weapon.

Thank you so much for covering this! Really enjoyed the game and I love the quirky buildins - very Quar like. I've been a fan of the Quar for years and it's so much fun seeing the WA release bring the murderous little buggers to so many new audiences.

One of the things I like the most about the Quar is that it is lighter. I am not into the ever darker grim-dark that most other non-historical wargames fall into these days.

I LOVE my silly guys experiencing the horrors. Like, they're so silly! And they're in so much pain! Probably what drew me towards ROOT also. "You mean the little cute cartoony ravens commit acts of terrorism on a regular basis? YES PLEASE!"

I got mine from Shiv Games on eBay for $70. It arrives today!!!🎉 It’s funny: I saw the Zombiesmith booth at Pacificon or maybe Kublacon back in ‘09-‘10… I saw these odd lil figs and was always intrigued by them. Then by chance, two weeks ago , I thought “ hmmm let’s see if they’re any Quar figs on eBay” Just as this mini set comes out! And then this brilliant let’s play report! I’ve been itching for some sort of ahistorical but still somehow rooted in the world I know. I think also it has something to do with how the creatures resemble genius wacko cartoonist Vaughn Bode’s duckbill’d war fighters. Makes me very very excited to paint these up. Bravo guys!! The stars have aligned and I’m now on a new path. 😎🥳🍄

@59:59 You mention counting the cards but the reason the rule states to remove the top card after the initial shuffle is to prevent just that. Did you guys forget to remove it when you started?

1:51:00 wouldn't standing up have prevented the sprint action since removing gob-smacked and standing up been two actions for the quar?

Like the figures, like the quirkiness, the painting, etc... but that was the most boring thing to watch/learn/understand. Now i don't want the game Sadly.
