I believe it was a vellum. Think 8x8 per inch graph

How do you learn to mirror write if your dominant hand is your left hand

You have two options learn to mirror write with the left hand, or with the right hand. If you want to be ambidextrous you would learn with the right hand. You can study how your left hand writes and mindfully apply your form in a mirrored fashion to your right hand. In my experience teaching I find that left handers learn more quickly in general so I'm sure you'll do fine.
