Wonderful story and beautiful narration by three narrators. I found the narrator's brief and percetive comments very useful. Thank you my friend. Could we please have more of the same?

Both your sense of intuitive timing and annunciation are impressive. You do especially well with the Russian names. Thank you for this reading.

I can empathize with one that has the misfortune of mandated interactions with the feeble minded, it seems their ilk have become more populous.

I noticed that Dostoevsky keeps talking about passports in his works, why are the characters so obsessed by them?

I confess that my knowledge here is limited, and by now it has been some time since I have looked at this story. But in general, the czarist government of the time was quite overbearing, and citizens would be expected to have *internal* passports--not for international travel, but for regulating movement within the country (I think the passport would tie you to a place of residence) and for keeping track of other kinds of obligations to the state--e.g., taxes and military service. But if others have more light to shed on this topic, I would welcome it!

The criminals had trouble getting passports. It gives one within the masses of poor some legitimacy, therefore they are screening potential lodgers to diminish the likelihood of harboring one of ill repute.
