I will always say this, I love seeing booktubers dnf books because yall it means you value your reading. A DNF is still a win!

Big success. Just because a book is pretty does not mean it is a good fit for you. Clear the spot(s) on your shelves for books that are going to be holding books that you will love and will bring you joy. That's what the new year is for sending out the old and bringing in the new.

Steph repeat after me... "I am not the problem" 😂... Maybe like Jade said... If you spot a trend with the same box giving DNF worthy books might be worth cancelling the subscription? Sell the DNFs and put the money to the wedding turns the negative to a positive for you 🥂!

I think that is a brilliant idea, almost makes we want more DNFs 😂😂😂

Curious if you still subscribe or plan on subscribing to these boxes. Based solely off this video, it does seem like maybe your taste doesn't always align.

Evening Steph! I think this has been successful due to getting the books that you don’t enjoy off your shelves to make space for the ones you do 😊

I’m doing a similar thing, trying to get all my sub books read! So far I’ve read Heavenly Bodies, I did Something Bad, The Hurricane Wars and 170 pages into The Phoenix Keeper!! I’ve done the same as you, hated The Hurricane Wars but I’ve already bought the next book from Fairyloot. So annoying! X

Maybe it's time to cancel your fantasy subscription boxes, you could always replace them with something else 💙

Keep or yeet it is such a fun name ! I unsubscribed from Fairyloot. I almost regretted it when i saw that edition of Teller of Small fortunes but something told me I would not like this book (I need a plot even for cosy book). The only adult Fairyloot book that I finished in one year of subscription is The Hurricane Wars, it gets a lot more enjoyable in the second part but I still rated it 3 stars. I dnfed the 3 others that I tried. Oh no i forgot about The City of Stardust : 3 stars too. I've been skipping Illumicrate like crazy too, there are some hidden gems in the subscription (like A Marvellous Light or Little Thieves) but there are never the popular ones. I dnfed Godkiller 30% in.

While godkiller is beautiful and I actually finished it (somehow lol) I can say you didn't miss much. All the action is happening in the last 20-30 pages. It made me want to read book 2 for a hot minute but when going through my series tracker, I asked myself why? It's not like it has a good audiobook either (I put it on 3x and it was still too slow 🤦♀️). And I just checked, Sunbringer is around 380 pages and the audiobook is almost 17h long 🤯

Steph in fairness to yourself you’ve been struggling with fantasy for a while. Maybe the struggle isn’t just with high fantasy anymore

DNF'ing is always fine, but especially when you didn't really pick the books yourself. Maybe you can use this as a way to tell if you should keep doing all the subscription boxes you're doing now. You got several books of your shelves that it turns out you weren't really interested in -- I'd call that a success.

I am not a fan of S.T. Gibson at all. Also, Godkiller is not great and I don't plan to continue the series. I don't think it's you. I have canceled all of my subscriptions except for Broken Binding and I am so glad! All the money I spent on book boxes can now be spent on special editions of b9oks I have read and loved.

Don’t be so hard on yourself, it’s good that you DNF books you are not enjoying. I am enjoying your reviews and hearing why you haven’t like them, so please don’t feel bad. I have only read 1 of them, Godkiller, and I did not enjoy it. Definitely not you as the problem and not a failure, I think it’s a great start to 2025 😀😀
