Adam messaged me on Twitter to tell me that he had seen my videos and liked my channel. He was looking to make a video on his beloved Nintendo DSI, however it was slightly faulty. We talked about the idea of me talking him through the repair over Skype, but settled for posting the item to me, then posting it back. This meant I could do a video on the repair! I hope you enjoy!

I just love the DSi beep at the beginning. I only really use my DSi for my alarm (of all my DS/3DS, it is the only one where the hinges are perfect and don't make that loud clicking noise, perfect if I need to sleep in and turn off the alarm). But the beeping intro is something I miss about it that didn't make it over to the 3DS.

Its the same with mine. The only way you can fix it is that you buy a NEW 3DS xl and transfer the top part onto the old one (thats broken). So you might as well buy a new 3DS XL if you can find a way to get all your data onto your SD Card. Hope it works! :3

The Nintendo Dsi is notorious for broken shoulder buttons. I still have mine (it barely functions) and the shoulder buttons were the first thing to break.

Yeah i rewatched this to fix my right back button, and while breaking it apart and putting it back together worked out and i didn't damage it, the right button still doesnt work, so ill have to replace it maybe one day with another sd card component 😔

When replacing the L/R ribbon cable, chances are you need to adjust the screen bias for both displays, as they are on this cable. A flickering display is a good indicator this needs adjustment (this is visible in this video). This should be done with the system on and battery door removed for access. Be gentle, as the adjustment pots are easy to break.

Oh wow, this brings back so many old memories. I used to, and still have my Nintendo DSI, it was meant to be my mother's but I kinda "stole" it since she didn't use it at all. It sadly stopped working years ago- Even the "Health and Safety" screen at the start is the same as my Nintendo's.

I was playing the Anniversary Legend of Zelda Four swords on my 3DS when my Left and Right buttons stopped working unless you spammed it really hard (which you needed to switch inbetween Links and you needed that for some of the bosses) so I never got past the final boss because I didn’t have enough time to switch inbetween Links

softmodding it can let u backup the internal memory to a file, and it's very easy to softmod, and it provides bricking protection since from then onward it will use the SD card as a virtual NAND

so I know this is a DSI, But I have a Black DS Lite and I still think it's still as sexy looking and it's design IMO still holds up today. When it's closed its god a nice glossy finish. But when you open it up it switches to a sleek matte finish. The Controls are all minimalist in design as well. My dsi XL have this issue but only on the “R” button. When I was a 4yo, I found out when I was playing a 3rd party game. I used my fricking teeth to move it up because I think the spring broke under the button. Also the dsi xl came from a pawn shop, so maybe the original owner threw the dsi to a pawn shop because the button is broken, rather they have a toddler that maybe they the dsi across the room causing the R button to not work, or because the owner raged after playing a game idk. So maybe you can fix this? Btw the color is wine red

The bulk of the important data on a DSi/DSi XL is stored on NAND or SD card. Only RTC data (Time/date) is lost when bettery is removed. Unlike the original DS which would lose Wifi profile and profile name on battery removal. That will not occur on a DSi/3DS. Only RTC data is lost. ;)

I just ordered a replacement flex cable brand names LeHang for $13 on Amazon. It will be here in 5 days . hopefully this fixes it because having a shoulder button not work would drop the value a ton if I wanted to sell the dsi.. I already tried canned air and nothing works. I took the whole thing apart and put it all back together but the R shoulder button still doesn't work. It is still clicky like in this video but doesn't work

I feel like I remember having a similar problem when I was little, and I fixed it with a butter knife. I doubt it was the same problem, I think my trigger just got stuck from continued use by a kid. As we all know, kids make things they use inexplicably sticky. I don’t know if this was the problem, I also chew on things, I still to, but wether by my teeth or something else I think I chewed it up somehow, and that’s why it got stuck. Hey I turned 16 this Christmas and probably got the DSI at a very young age, don’t judge me! XD

Pro tip, to fix the dsi shoulder buttons you can blow very hard into the gap in the side and doing that and clicking hard, itll work again, sounds stupid but works. i did it myself

I used to have a DSi in kindergarten. One time at my Summer School(as in like fun stuff at a children’s school so like a summer camp) we had device day so I brought my DSi (actually my Dad’s old one) . So a teacher came in and said she found an educational dvd about Jesus ( Christian place), and she said all devices off. I was so focused on my New Super Mario Bros game that I didn’t hear me. She tried to get my attention, I didn’t notice. She thought I was ignoring her, my friend tried to warn me, I still wasn’t paying attention. She proceeds to try and take my DSi out of my hands and..... rips it in half. Also a few years ago I was in the car and I had my 3DS closed. We left the car for like 30 minutes for groceries. We come back and I get ready to play with my Yveltal in my Pokémon Y game. I open my 3DS and it.... rips in half. I literally did NOTHING. I JUST OPENED IT AND IT BROKE! But 2 years later my parents got me a new 3DS which was fun, but I still miss my old ones.
