Froggy--I grew up on my grandparents' farm. Those roadside stalls were low for two reasons: 1. It allowed for maximum shade coverage during the day and, if lit after dark, a minimum of wattage needed (cost). 2. It allowed my grandmother to sit and be seen. If you make this a "Made to Move" Barbie, she can sit behind the stand. I know times were different in the immediate post-WW II days, but people would return the baskets (bushel and peck) from the last purchase, fill them from the produce displayed on the front and sides, and be told the price. Cash only. In my grade school we were taught about bushels and pecks.

I redid my sister's Barbie Dreamhouse into a Gothic Estate because she loves Barbie, but isn't a fan of all the pink. Dry brushing is your friend. :)

Yesssss. Love it when you customize these things. You might want to see about getting a sealant that isn't mod podge. Liquitex makes ones that are made for acrylic and come in matte to glossy. Also, lightly buffing the plastic with a nail buffer can help the paint to stick.

I love this! I have the garden set and want to get the farmer's market set at some point. I wish they'd make accessory packs for more fruits and veggies to go with it. Fantastic work on the painted details. I have a lot of the flower bundles as well. Painting them will make them look so much nicer. Thanks for the inspiration! Now I might even have to make some raised garden beds and make a "Barbie" garden with lots of fruits and veggies.

The paint job really brings the sets to life. If you wanted more hight on the food stall you could cut 4 pieces of a square craft stick and affix them to the bottom of the legs. Add a little box around the bottom to hide the addition. If you feel ambitious, you could make a mold of the bread and veggies then use air drying foam, paper-mache or other medium to make more of them.

I like your painted version much better! To help prevent the paint from chipping, you can prime it with a spray on primer meant for plastics. (Make sure that the can specifically says the primer or paint is for use on plastic, as some spray paints react to certain plastics by never completely drying even weeks later. Ask me how I know.... 😅) I have also used chalk paint on hard plastic accessories as a base coat to help acrylic paint stay on better, though I don't know if chalk paint would work on flexible plastics without cracking. For flexible plastics, it might be best to use a paint brand like Liquitex so the dried paint retains a certain amount of flex as well. And a clear top coat--matte or gloss as required - - will help preserve your paint job.
