Let's Repair - 2wire 2701HG-B gateway

A failed attempt to repair a 2wire DSL gateway, model 2701HG-B. I found and fixed one problem (loose surface mount component), but the unit was still faulty. Just not worth the time to try and fix.

Need to tell you something the Wi-Fi signal these machines produce is very high quality in clear and clean I think it's the best device I've tested and I've been testing Wi-Fi devices since 1999 before is even a standard these work really well in a noisy environment haven't tested newer to our devices but these are really good for legacy Wi-Fi

The power supplies are KNOWN to die from 2Wire, they almost always fail. It's a WELL known issue. Usually a bad cap in the adapter. They may show 5.1v but once you add a load (amperage) to the adapter, it can't keep the voltage up. Instead of 5.1V I just use a basic 5V adapter and disable the wifi antenna.

Victor Coss Yes, adapter issues confirmed by AT&T Tech Support some years ago.

I have the same problem with my 2wires and i too take it apart , can't find anything , the power will just goes off and you wait it will come back on..these modem is so cheap to buy. A used one like $10 on kijiji or ebays . But I did have this modem over 5 years of good use through.

Can you please show the equipment use for testing and how and what you look for during testing, it would help us beginners out alot thanks

I had one that read normal voltage until it was placed under load, then it dropped way down. The power supply is a common failure with this 2Wire. There's a video showing how to replace the failed capacitor if so inclined. I fixed mine the same way.

Manda los 5v pero al ponerlo a trabajar baja a 3.5v aproximadamente, para probarlo lo conecte con una celdas 18650 y un elevador y prendio pero quisiera arreglar la fuente de alimentación

If I bought another one that works, would it work with my internet or would I need bell to come and reconfigure it?

Shocked it wasn't the wall wart. I jigged up a supply from dry cells to hold me between ordering $10 warts.
