They made some changes for seasons 8 (fall ’22) and 9 (spring ’23). 3 competitors per episode, with 1 moving on, concentrating on 1 group (A, B, then C) at a time. After each sang, the vote would determine who had the fewest votes and was def. leaving. A battle royale between the 2 remaining (same pre-determined song, different renditions) would dictate which one, specifically, would move on. (Voting determined by the panel only for the battles royale.) The additional change for S9 was for the panel to save 1 person who lost the battle royale per group. Each group had 3 episodes. At the end of group A’s final episode, Medusa lost to the CA Roll (they both sang Uptown Girl), but was saved during her unmasking. Her next appearance was after groups B and C finished, when she won against the saves from the other 2 groups, readmitting her to the season’s competition. And since there were only 2 finalists, both had to do 2 full performances in the finale.
