This John Deere 332 needs some love because it has been sitting for 5 months inside the shop. Since then it has been collecting dust and the engine does not want to turn over with the current battery...I wonder why!
In this video, I will service the John Deere 332. That means I will drain the engine oil and hydraulic oil, so I can remove the filter. Once the filters are removed I can cross-reference the filters to get some new ones in town.
I tend to use WIX filters as they are readily accessible and I can pick them up at my local automotive parts shop. These filters have never given me any issues and I highly suggest them.
If you own a John Deere 300 Series garden tractor, it might be time that you take off your rear fender pan and remove some of the other panels, to be able to give your machine a long-awaited cleaning. Not only will your tractor look nicer, but it will also run much cooler...especially during the warm spring and summer days! Take care of your machines and all will be well.
If you found this video helpful in any way, please hit that like button down below and consider subscribing if you enjoy John Deere content, because I'll have more videos in the near future about these machines. Thanks for watching!

This came at a good time! I have a 430 diesel that is having an issue with melting the fuse block. I am thinking its the wiring that needs to be cleaned up. These are great tractors! I have a 322 gas yanmar powered one too. These tractors have needed very little since new. I inherited both and they're approaching 900 hours on them. I hope to pass them on to my kids some day. Thank you for your work!

Hi Max, I just read that this was an issue with the Yanmar powered John Deere garden tractors. Since everything works now, I don't believe the fuse block is at risk, but I will double check. The only way this can possibly happen is if the connectors of each fuse are loose. Poor contact will cause a fuse holders to melt. It might be good to clean up the fuse connections and give the fuse block connectors a squeeze with some pliers. This way they will grab better. If I notice anything abnormal, I will update you on this situation! You have some very nice tractors and it would be wonderful to pass them down. I hope you can keep them up and running for many years to come. Regards Andreas

Hi Jason, thank you very much! It was running and operating from the start, but it was in need of fresh oil and filters. Currently I am working on the 46" deck and I should have that ready to cut grass in summer. Thanks for viewing!! Cheers

I work at a John Deere dealership as a service tech and those are the same brand filters we use

Hi there, thanks for letting me know! I've received many comments about my choice of filters, but I'm glad you were able to back me up. I never noticed any issues with WIX filters and I will continue to use them for my projects. Thank you for your comment! Regards Andreas

Wix is a good aftermarket brand, but if I was taking my machine to a dealer and you weren’t using genuine JD filters and parts, I’d be a little upset. When I get parts from my dealer, no one hands me a WIX.

I have always wanted a 332 Deere. Never could find one near me to go buy. I've had a 330, 430 Sold both and wish I had kept the 330, Just something about that Deere I loved. I now use a 2001 455 Love it and will never part with it until Death anyway!

The 332's are really nice machines and I'm glad I found one in such nice condition. They are getting harder to find by the day (or at least in my area). You have very nice machines and I think you have an absolute beast of a machine, with your 455! I've only seen one in person so far and they are really neat!! If you keep up with the maintenance, you'll have a great machines for many more years. Maybe you'll even find a 332 down the road some day to add to your collection. Thanks for sharing this with me. Regards Andreas

Don’t let people give you grief about the Wix filters. Wix is owned by Mann+Hummel. They own and make brands such as Wix, Mann, Purolater,and Filtron to name a few. They also do private label for companies such as John Deere and Napa Gold. They can build to many different specs on the same filter. If you were to cut open a Wix, Deere or Napa Gold they would all be pretty much the same inside.

I appreciate your comment! Thanks for sharing this information with me, which I did not know. I have always opted for Wix filter for many vehicles and different types of equipment. Then work well and are readily available at my closest automotive store. Al they need is the number and they can cross-reference it to any Wix filter pretty much...which is super helpful! I noticed JD and Napa Gold filters are at least 20% more expensive, but that's actually not the reason why I don't buy them. If they are the pretty much the same, that's pretty much all that matters. Thanks again for your comment. Regards Andreas

Hi there, thanks for tuning in and I'm happy to hear that you have a 317 that needs some work. I did a full series on a 317 a while back and this is the link to the playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLJYgf55IHeu9FxtkEcHdCS0C0I7vtCa6_ In the second video, I discuss the differences between the Kohler KT17 Series 1 and Series 2. This will help you for your rebuild project. The 318 is a much more refined tractor compared to the 317. If you have them both running, you can get A LOT of work done with them. Regards Andreas

Hey WR! If you ever get a chance a could you also make a service video of the 400?
@WorkshopRebuild

I will keep this in mind! At this moment the JD400 only saw ~10h since the rebuild. I‘m not sure it‘s in need of a service in a long time, but I can do an update in the near future😊

If you want a little more oil filtration, the Wix 51356 is the longer version of the 51365.

Take the mesh screen off the bottom and all the mats that are surrounding everything in the rear of the tractor. Throw it all in the trash. Every time you use your machine give it a quick blow out and it won't ever get like this
@WorkshopRebuild
@WorkshopRebuild 10 ай бұрын
The mesh screen is definitely trap for debris, especially from a mower deck. I will keep it on, since I will not be using this tractor as a mowing machine. Maybe if it collects too much in a short period of time, I‘ll keep it off! Thank you for your suggestion, Alex. Have you run into other issues on you JD garden tractor that you leave away or have changed over the years? Regards Andreas

It shouldn’t be too hard to push. On the right side in front of the rear wheels there’s a bypass for the hydraulics to make it easy to push
@WorkshopRebuild
@WorkshopRebuild Жыл бұрын
That is correct, the lever to activate the check valves is on the right side of this tractor. Even when pushed the lever down, this tractor was very hard to push and it wasn't any easier than the JD 317 or JD 300 that I have. The hydraulic rear end is very restrictive and it should never be pulled or pushed quickly, because you want the fluid to pass through the check valves. The John Deere 400 on the other hand is much easier, because you have a 2-speed transmission behind the hydraulic motor and you can luckily put it into neutral.

I am not familiar with the JD 318 Onan engine, but yes every engine has a small breather tube. I will do a search on this later today and get back to you with some information. I hope I can help you out. Regards Andreas
