Stumbled across this channel very recently while looking to purchase the Sage barista Express impress. As someone going from a Nesspresso machine with pods this channel has been most helpful in getting up & running with my new Sage machine. I still cant work out if grind settings are correct but after a few go's I'm on a setting of the internal grinder at 4 & the grind wheel at 14. Using Coffee kevs caramel decaf beans I get a shot window of 28 seconds total from the moment I press the 2 cup button. (7 seconds of that 28 is pre-infusion) Great channel, website shop & speedy delivery on my first order of coffee beans.😊 Edit: I’ve adjusted the internal grind setting back a notch to 5 as seeing another of your vids on this as I have a new machine.

This is just so much more helpful. I have found that shots on my Bambino Plus taste so much better when I grind finer, smaller doses of 18g for 32-35 secs rather that the 28-30 I thought I needed with 20g doses. It’s what works for me and tastes so much better now I just taste every shot, thanks Kev!

Wife and I love this new world of coffee. Just bought Fruitcake Blend & Chocolate Brownie Blend today. Can't wait to experiment. Bought my daughter the AeroPress and frother for Xmas after watching your video. Hopefully we'll get a result and try more flavours. Thank you

The coffee I'm currently using (with my Sage Bambino) is coming out in around 20 seconds for a 18g in/35g out shot. (Sage Dose Control grinder at 8). It's delicious.

I totally agree with this. The mistakes allow you to learn. I'm just short of 2yrs into making espresso and now I know what I like. That said, mistakes made some great results. I pulled a killer shot with a super long extraction, somewhere near 45sec. Wish I could replicate it!

Another great Vid Kev! I'm very happy with my 27/28 sec shot window on my Impress, it's the best looking and tasting with the coffee I'm using so far. I did push to 35sec and this was very bitter so just wound it back to the tasty zone. I think pushing it to far is useful for a novice as you get to taste "bitter coffee", then when back in the zone you appreciate the flavour a lot more and understand what you need to aim for when changing beans in future. 👍

Hi Kev, new to your channel and relatively new to espresso making so really enjoying your content which I'm finding super useful. I'm using the 9Barista and enjoyed the video you did on this, I'm managing to get some great shots for my novice pallette. Look forward to seeing your future content 👍

Nice work Kev. Keep it up. Frigate birds can be found in warmer climes usually near the sea I think. Pop over to the Galapagos for a week or two on expenses. Loads of them there.

Hey Kev, thank you so much. After 18 months of using a home coffee setup I’m finally starting to pay attention to the detail and reproducibility and basically how to make excellent espresso, and your videos are so helpful in demystifying it all. My question here - if I pull a shot and sip it and find it’s under extracted, can I just stick the cup back under and pull it again for a few secs? Does it make a difference that it’s not all pulled at the same time? (I’m using a bambino pro). Thanks!

Ok but what do I need to change the shorten / extend the shot window?

Great video as usual. But what about the ratio? Would you still recommend 1-2/3/4 ? Would love to hear your opinion. For me we love the latte/cappuccinos. Hover still struggling with espresso taste.

He Kev, I currently have a hario skerton and when I reduce the grind size it takes about 10 min to grind a single dose (with the drill attached!) No idea what's wrong. Did this ever happen to you? Or any advice on how to fix it? lol

I am loving your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Here is my problem- volume. I'm getting a 28 second shot window (first drips at 11 seconds and total time of 28). But I'm only getting 20 grams of liquid. I'm using a Bambino Plus. My question is- should I play around with the volume setting to allow more water or should I be playing with my grind? Will a finer grind give me more volume? Or is it the just that the preset on the machine will never give me enough water?
@Coffee_Kev11 ай бұрын
Thanks Lisa :-). What I'd recommend is pulling shots manually at first, press and hold the shot button for 7/8 seconds for standard preinfusion time then release and then press the button again to stop, when you have your desired yield. Once you're relatively happy with how long it takes to get your desired yield (approx 36g for example if you're going 1:2 from 18g) then just re-set the shot volume on your next shot, and you should be able to just press the shot button next time. Using volumetric buttons only really works once you're dialled in, if you try to use it while dialing in it's a real pain. Ta, Kev.

Hello. Thank you so much. So I want to make sure I understand- I feel like I'm close on my grind so I'm putting 18 grams in the portafilter. Next I'm going to manually pull a shot stopping when I get 36 grams. I'm going to keep doing this, playing with my grind size until I get a pull time I'm happy with (25-30 seconds total)? I think I'm going to wait for some of my supplies to come (WDT tool, distribution tool, funnel and naked portafilter). @@Coffee_Kev

Admit it: this was just an excuse to get a tax deductible dart board, wasn't it? 🤣🤣🤣 More seriously, good video, and a very important point that the key thing is taste. When I got my Sage Barista Pro, I followed your instructions on dialling in, but ignored shot windows. After tasting a lot of cups of espresso, I did need a lie down to stop the room spinning from my caffeine overdose, but all good. Though I do find the internal burrs on the grinder have needed refining a few times, presumably as the machine settled in.

I'd like to ask if on this channel also has Orwellian total censorship?? Just like on the coffeeblog website. Where posts from people asking from outside -- uk -- are deleted. That's why you need to enter your e-mail address there?? It's really professional, I'd even call it pathetic!! 😫😵💫

Hi, I don't delete any comments on coffeeblog, why would I do that? Comments are great, I even use Google translate to reply to people in the languages I can't speak (all languages bar English, drunken English and gibberish). If you commented recently just give me some time, comments are published as I reply, I reply to them all, but ai do them in blocks usually once every couple of weeks. Cheers
