This Japanese red pine is about 3-4 years from the start. It can be made smaller by growing in small pots or using less fertilizer. It may be because we use seeds sold for bonsai.

I want to make a large bonsai like this, how do I get the trunk and leaves like this? Do I have to let the plant grow longer, then do bonsai stuff? www.bonsaiempire.com/images/gallery/large/A_100_Feb.jpg

@@kurodesuuuu If you aim for a thick trunk from the beginning, extend the sacrificial branches. The longer the branches, the thicker the trunk. Cut off the desired thickness. It is necessary to leave a part or branch that will be the top when cutting off the sacrificial branch in advance

@@ichiyabonsai ありがとうございました! So I guess I'll just let the branches get longer for now. Do you have any recommendations for books or resources to learn about bonsai?
