There's two ends of historical sewing KZbinrs spectrum: the "l hand sewed the entire 17 century dress in time appropriate stitching techniques using pattern from that times" and Karolinas "I just layed this thing on the floor and kinda traced it and assumed some things and hadn't finished the insides because I hated it" and both end up looking amazing and I absolutely love it.

Better than three feet (one meter) of snow overnight, a 50F (10C) degree day where it all melts, and a 25F (-4C) night where it all freezes again, and then you have work in the morning and your boss can't seem to understand that EVERYTHING MIGHT AS WELL BE AN ICE RINK and you can't step foot out your door without landing on your butt on solid ice! Bitter? Me? Probably.

Everything is dying and going into hibernation. Silly, personal note: I was born in November. I am a Scorpio; I read somewhere that the specific date and time of my birth means that I'm one of "the most Scorpio Scorpios to ever exist." In numerology, I am a 4, which is considered unlucky by the Japanese due to the fact that it sounds like "death" when spoken aloud. Every. Single. Astrology-like system, when I input my info, comes back with 'DEATH DEATH DEATH DEATH REBIRTH DEATH DEATH DEATH.' It used to bother me, but now I just laugh. I haven't died yet. (I know that's not the point; I like making stupid jokes.)

I've always loved November and I've always been a little bit annoyed at how people rush to Christmas before December begins. Not only does it mean that people are ignoring November, but it means that many people ignore the season of Advent too! Plus it causes Christmas fatigue and by the time December 25th comes around it feels like Christmas already passed weeks before. *edit:* For clarification as someome who lives in the U.S. it always feels a bit disorienting to see Christmas decorations and hear Christmas music before Thanksgiving (the holiday most associated with November here) has even passed. On top of that, many people are unaware that the 12 days of Christmas actually *begin* on December 25th and last until January 5th! Which is why I complained about people celebrating Christmas before December 25th even arrives.
@lindsaypelletier2294
@lindsaypelletier2294 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely I wish Christmas was in January. The whole winter holiday thing is off by a month in my opinion. Not only does it railroad the beauty of autumn -(which actually lasts until December 21!) but then it leaves us with nothing afterwards-no real winter celebrations from January 2-March 22-which is when spring begins. So we go the whole winter bored! Christmas is placed at the end of fall yet we celebrate it like a winter holiday! This should be the next rant…
@misseli1
@misseli1 2 жыл бұрын
@@lindsaypelletier2294 Well if it helps, the traditional 12 days of Christmas are actually from December 25th to January 5th, which is followed by the Feast of Epiphany on January 6th (called Three Kings Days in some countries). And in some traditions, the Christmas season doesn't truly end until February 2nd, which is the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus, also known as Candlemas.
@thebuttermilkyway687
@thebuttermilkyway687 2 жыл бұрын
@@lindsaypelletier2294 100% absolutely agree with every phrase esp. the "railroad the beauty of autumn". And January and February need some serious help. Christmas could easily be 25 Jan. The Romans and pagans are the only reason it's 25 Dec anyway. Of course if we can't convince everyone to change it, we will just have to make the very most of Candlemas (Feb. 2)

And we can dry our herbs, drink tea, listen to Siouxsie Sue and the Banshees, Angel Olson, Florence and the Machine, and write poems by the window in the falling light, maybe read some Dickinson, some Plath....yessss. I love when there is ice all over everything, but not yet snow, and all the scratching and creaking gives way to tiny crystal bells. I love the crows, and I feed them all winter starting in November. And I love getting cozy next to the fire when the November gales howl beyond the window. And you're absolutely right: Bronte books ARE November in book form. Which is why I'm going to use up all my extra Audible credits on the books I haven't read yet. Thanks for the inspiration! 💜

I love Christmas, and Winter Solstice, but I find Thanksgiving is all about family, it is all about gratitude and celebrating the abundance of fall. We have a big feast of a roast turkey (usually) with lots of sides, and it's a family day to be together and give thanks for our abundance, and there are lots of autumn-themed decorations associated with it. However, it's not as big a deal in terms of all the consumerism as Halloween or Christmas.

I live in an area currently full of impossibly vibrant-colored leaves which are absolutely beautiful until an autumn windstorm hits with all those pretty leaves turning into nature's super glue and sticking to walkways, driveways, clogging road drains and right turn lane exits. Well, I will blame my bad attitude on what I have blamed everything on for the last 2 years, the pandemic and quarantine.

I really enjoyed you whipstitching that ‘beech’. Love your feline inspector/supervisor! I couldn’t agree more that November gets a bad rap and many folks just careen past Halloween and fly into Christmas, perhaps with a brief pit stop to gorge themselves for Thanksgiving (in the US). Three of us in my immediate family have November birthdays and most folks end up combining our gifts with Christmas and we kind of get bypassed.

I treat November less as a pre Christmas and more as a post Halloween. Apparently I need more gloomy walks and Brontë books.

Cool dress. Doesn't look warm enough. I agree 100% about November. We should take my November birthday and give it a big build up and celebration.

I LOVE November, always have. And here in the US, we have Thanksgiving, one of the Big Three of holidays we have three months in a row. November has always been a time for family, falling leaves and enjoying the colder weather for me.

Thank you for celebrating November! Autumn colors peak in early November in my area, my Mom’s birthday and Thanksgiving are in November and it’s the perfect time for cozy crochet and binge watching Meme Mom videos. ❤️

I'm not versed in historical clothes, but the end result looked like a Regency woman, but depicted in the 1920s. Maybe it was the choice of a really dark material, and how loose/floaty it appeared (perfect for breaking into a Charleston)? Or perhaps it just shows how there are through-lines in fashion that can span centuries. It's a wonderful look on you, Karolina.

Where I am, I always think of November as one last month before it gets reeeeeeally cold. It is perfect to do winter activities without having to wear full winter gear. We have thanksgiving, then halloween, then a month to relax before you have to worry about xmas. Seems odd that Americans skip their own thanksgiving ( theirs is in November, ours is in october) so often. But now they want more money so they make you think about “ holiday spending” for longer… that is my conspiracy at least.

Even In Soviet Russia, where there was a special november (un)holiday and a big one (the 7th) , it was frustratingly called "the anniversary of the Great OCTOBER Socialist Revolution". It's cause they changed the calendar after the Revolution.
