What a delightful young woman! Fun interview ... and my young quilting friends were impressed that I knew of her. Thank you, Karen. Best luck, Wendy!

Karen, I am trying to recall how I first "stumbled" upon your KZbin channel. I have not been quilting long at all, so it shouldn't be hard to figure it out, but here is the deal, I feel so very fortunate to have done so. You teach me not only the technical side of quilting, but the social and emotional side as well. Your interviews are so well done and I see my list of "e-mentors" growing due to you. You are a true teacher and such a positive influence. Thank you!

Great interview. I have found the blog tutorials and KZbin videos invaluable in my journey into quilting. I also self taught myself knitting, simple embroidery and other crafts using the internet. We are very lucky to be living in a time where we are able to access information and connect with likeminded individuals. Hopefully on day one of my friends will get bitten by the crafting bug!

I’m a VERY serious introvert, so it was inspiring to see someone who is shy and who had started from scratch open up an entirely new community through social media and through her quilting. Thanks for all of your wonderful interviews - they’re always a treat for me (and yes, I sit down with my sewing and my tea when I tune in).

Another great interview Karen. What a big move Wendy. Perth is such a beautiful city. I visited from Sydney a couple of years ago. We all have problems of isolation even when we have friends. It makes a big difference having like minded friends who you can share your passions with fabrics and quilts.

When I first met Wendy, I was impressed with her courage to leave her family, friends and career behind and move half way around world to start again. I was also impressed on how she was able to connect through quilting to not only nurture herself but grow a new community. In the past year, I'm sure so many of you can connect with this journey. Or realize that you too need to reach out and connect with new friends. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. 🤗

Bravo to Wendy! My Dil left her family, lifelong friends and a very lucrative real estate career in Toronto to travel to Brisbane to start a relationship with my oldest son. They are now married and expecting their first child in Apr. Bravo to this generation. They have great courage! Thank you Karen for this wonderful interview!

I am now more appreciative of ordering online within the US - had been pouting about not fabric shopping in person. Although quilting shops have closed over the past few years - hoping the new Covid quilters will save our shops!

Have always taken my fabric stash for granted - I need small piece of fabric for a project I go grab a little somethin' somethin' from my fabric stash - NEVER realized how priviledged we are in the US just to have something so simple as a well-rounded fabric stash. Not taking that one for granted any more. It is golden treasure!

Thank you so much for all guests! I refer to the one on thread again and again. Please, please do one on quality of fabric, e.g. thread count, digitized, why are some softer? Why do some of the better know designer fabrics seem to have a looser weave. Is thread count a factor? When acquiring 2nd hand fabrics how can you distinguish bad from good? Inquiring minds want to know?😄

Thanks so much Karen for the interesting chat with Wendy. I too followed my husband to the USA for his work. Unable to work I sort friendship in a fabric shop which started a life long obsession with quilting and cross-stitch! Wendy is right fabric is soooo expensive in Perth ! And like you , am unsure why being this close to Asia. Love your interviews Karen and often go back over them .

What a great interview, I had moved to Montreal from a little country town in NSW Australia for 3 years before I found quilting and know the issues of lonliness. But I am back home and into quilting into a big way. I love her gunmption and good on you Wendy. I did live in Perth and it is diagonally opposite on the globe from New York. So you could not have moved further away. Congratulation both Karen and Wendy for a great and interesting interview.

On the one hand, I think I would be very frustrated in Australia as far as fabric buying. On the other hand I'm going, "Wait -! Australia's Jo-Ann stores have OLD STOCK!!!!" As visions of missed fabric opportunities flash before my eyes. It's funny how sometimes, the universe moves around you and opens up some fantastic opportunities. I love her story!

In my country, unfortunately, handmade items such as quilts or knitwear is a reminder of poverty Quilting is practically unheard of and we have ONE online fabric shop even sale fabrics is expensive 4 1/2" yards of fabric cost close to $100.00 USD. I don't know anyone who quilts.

Great inspirational interview with Wendy Chow.. On another topic. I have been working my way through your videos and have learned a lot. But I was puzzled with your need for those little pieces of fabric that you use when starting a seam to prevent the mess of thread knots and mess. I learned a while ago that if you raise your presser foot when you thread the needle it will prevent these thread “messes”. I have never needed the fabric “leaders” that you depend on. Have you tried this. Could be a game changer. Keep up the inspirational videos!

True but I do enjoy using the crumbs
@debanydoombringer13853 жыл бұрын
They are to prevent the fabric from getting sucked down into the feed dogs. That sometimes happens at the start especially if the start is at another seam. Some machines are more prone to this than others. It ruins the fabric and messes up your measurements.

Well done to your guest quilter, a nice young woman who has obviously done well. However, in defence of my homeland Australia, she spoke very naively about availability of good quality fabric and online quilting stores here. The truth is there is a 'plethora' of beautiful quilting stores all over Australia & many many of them (because of Covid) have introduced, or continue to provide fabulous online purchasing services. I live in the ACT & have FREQUENTLY purchased beautiful quilting fabrics from both, my numerous local quilting stores, AND online from all over the country. Regarding her comments about the Australian version of the US 'Jo-ann' stores, holding fabric for 1-2 yrs. I have no idea who she was referring to, but show me a quilting store that 'doesn't' still have fabric for that long? It's no means a crime, & in fact can be very very useful when you're desperately in need of 'that fabric' you bought 2-3 yrs ago & now find you need a bit more of it!. Regarding your question about "high cost of quilting fabric here given our proximity to Asian markets"?. A very relevant one. I can only answer by saying that wages here are so much higher than the US, bulk purchasing demand so much less, and high import tariffs.
