I definitely see your point, but there's also the fact that Corpse doesn't necessarily make music /for/ people, nor does he make it to help others out of their depression. From what I understand, Corpse makes and posts these songs to pour his heart out in ways he can't in his personal life, but also to say to his fans "Hey, look at me, I'm here with you. You're not alone." To me, the point of his music is much less of a "let me help you out, listen to my music it'll help you" and more of a "let me sit with you in the darkness until you can see the light." That personally comforts me in ways I can't explain. Sometimes you need someone who doesn't want to fix you, who knows they can't really help you, so they sit with you in that darkness to comfort you until you can help yourself. All that said, I still think your points of concern are very valid.

The thing is, from what we’ve heard from corpse, as in just him talking about how he feels, I genuinely think he feels like these songs most of the time. So the songs are similar in ways. It’s real imo. I think he just vents what HE feels. He makes songs for him. Ppl want him to release his music so he does. But most of the song he makes he keeps to himself. The song to me doesn’t feel like a celebration of the feelings. It sounds like the feelings to me. And I think that’s how music should be.

All valid points. But the thing is, Corpse made this song during a storm, based on what he said on his Twitter. He didn't want to release this song but he did. He makes songs for himself and if he releases it, he doesn't "care" or doesn't mind about what people think of it. He's doing it to vent out his feelings.
@JustinVanTrump
@JustinVanTrump Жыл бұрын
One, Corpse does this to vent his feelings it seems like and two he says in this one, "Would it kill you to smile at least once in a while, Leave your f***ing town, Live in the now" which I take to be the opposite of what you took the song; where you said you felt like it was celebrating suicide while I feel like it was him convincing himself or someone else not to by saying that he or the other person have to stop living in the past or thinking ahead and instead just live in the moment; but I think Corpse wanted it to be open to interpretation as well plus I don't know him so I can't say for sure what the meaning behind the song is
@LordofDD24
@LordofDD24 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s celebrating suicide? It’s more express a mindset and frustration in a way with music as opposed to doing something far worse. Better to get it out in music - and I think creating music to do so creates empathy as opposed to necessarily encourage folks. I get your point about his sometimes one-color approach to his art, but still, like you said, it’s beautiful.

I don't know about this reaction. I normally like your takes on music, but it seems like you have an issue with this song that goes further than just a song. It is so different than anything Corpse has ever done before, and honestly he touches on some positive things that he never really has before. He asks why the subject is never smiling, tells us to just get out of town if we are looking for a change. honestly it feels like he is trying to grow and you are torn because you don't like the direction that he is growing in. Also I could understand calling it a parody of himself if he made another"ruining my life" song but this is so much more than that.
@JohnnyBoy-n9g

It really isn’t different, it’s self pity on someone else’s behalf. Everyone goes through stuff but this music is different than say NF. NF makes music that is so relatable and it doesn’t make you feel like you’re worthless. Corpse music makes you feel like you are alone. Putting your emotions into a song isn’t bad it’s just the way you do it is what you need to be careful of. That’s what Scru is saying.
@eternalwolfmusic7607
@eternalwolfmusic7607 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnnyBoy-n9g no, that's how corpse makes YOU feel. Also I was talking more about how different musically it is than anything else he has done. This is clearly more than just the angry teenager we all got to know last year. Musically he has matured, and often times with artists that is the first sign that they will soon start to experiment more with their identity. If you don't like corpse's music, don't listen to it. But to say that it sounds like the kind of music someone listens to before shooting up a school goes beyond constructive feedback and begins flirting with the realm of prejudice/personal attack.
@JohnnyBoy-n9g
@JohnnyBoy-n9g Жыл бұрын
@@eternalwolfmusic7607 clearly it isn’t how it makes just me feel like that. Scru pretty much said the same thing. Everything he said was constructive criticism. Scru said that he wants to make sure that corpse understands the responsibility he has when it comes to his music. Idk why you’re getting so pressed about this lmao. It’s just an opinion. You can grow in music and try new things. However, the only difference I see is that he’s saying the same stuff but with a different tone.

@@JohnnyBoy-n9g I'm not pressed about anything. I just don't think that scru has a fair take about this considering how many other artists blatantly talk about murdering people and scru's reaction is "talk nice to me!" As an avid corpse listener for me personally this is actually healing and helping me because its kind of like “hey no one can help you but yourself but that doesn’t mean you want to be alone” kind of vibe, but I definitely understand that this song doesn’t fit to everyone!

He didn't promote this song too hard because he said he recorded kind of quickly and also felt that it more than anything captured a moment in time. I think a lot of people are just so taken aback by the singing though. We knew he could because of agoraphobic and the lofi loop but to this degree or like this? It's something ELSE.

I love this song so much and I think the beauty of his soft singing juxtaposed with the ugliness of the lyrics is extremely powerful. I absolutely get what you are saying though about your concerns and how this could be taken by impressionable fans. To be fair though I think his rap lyrics are way darker and more effed up, this is tame for Corpse.

I have a feeling it's a song of a man unsure on if his life is ending, not even necessarily by their own hand. I have a feeling that's it's a cry for a loved one to be by their side as they go through the gates or help them to avoid them. Just a new perspective...

This song comforts me. It's incredibly validating to hear your emotions given back to you. But that's just me. I think a large amount of neurodivergents feel comforted just by the idea of not being the one and only single soul on this planet feeling these feelings. It's less about 'celebrating' the state of mind, and more about talking about it. Which we need to do more of.

But also 2 I don't really like how so many people talk about unaliving and hurting themselves and people just automatically go to "glorification" and "celebration".

If it’s not a “serious song” that kind of pushes what Scru said about Corpse being a parody of himself, which isn’t necessarily bad tho. If this is more of a demo, and that’s what he means by “not serious” then I get it, but it still adds to the portfolio and creates a certain image for himself of the same sort of thing over and over, like scru said. I like corpse and I like this song btw!

Hi. Anxiety and depression incarnate here. I get what youre saying about becoming a parody of yourself, but this man doesn't do much of anything as far as media. He even goes to the extent of 'posting himself breathing to see what the reaction is.' If I had to take a stab at this, this is genuinely him trying to overcome his battles that he is fighting with no help whatsoever. I can only imagine how he feels too with how many health problems, his identity crisis, as well as his hidden lifestyle that he has to keep from his irl friends. Eminem is out there. Em has fans, friends, and like a whole gang of people that are on his side. Corpse has 2 lives where one is online and one is void of the other life. I genuinely think he's just spittin his feelings and this is just his struggle. As far as the "one in the chamber, one for myself" I am pretty sure that's him just reiterating what the one in the chamber is for, and that the picture is what he's bringing to hell with him so he can see 'her' there. Corpse is such a softie. His music may say one thing, but I feel like this one is really close to who he actually is.
@DevilWearsAdidas
@DevilWearsAdidas Жыл бұрын
I also don't think he's trying to help other people or even gives a shit about helping other people, necessarily. Certain points in my life, I've noticed, that I started acting certain ways even though I would love to have had help with htings, I almost couldn't bare to offer what I know and what I dealt with to help others just from the overwhelming damage that I've witnessed and seen. Not that I want anyone to struggle, but man what i'd give to have someone else who knows what kind of pain I feel so I can at least compare and relate to others. Physically and mentally.
@crowcorpse1562

the one in the chamber and one for myself is just a reiteration of wanting to off himself, while holding an image of this ex so its the last thing he sees/he sees her in hell or whatnot. most of his sadder songs like this all tie back to seemingly one really bad breakup he dealt with in the past cause his song life waster was also heavily tied around this old relationship and directly talked about selfharm and wanting to die. but if you checkout that audio he posted on his twitter he does say hes going to be "releasing some of the best heaviest stuff yet" so theres that to look forward to as well!

i mean i get your point about being more of a role model and stuff but when you have people like sza explicitly saying she's gonna kill her ex and her ex's new girl in her chorus like, yes artists should be aware of their platforms but also if a dude is fucked enough to go shoot up someone, it's not the song's problem, that's the same logic they used to blame marylin manson, ac/dc, GTA etc in the past

This reaction left a very sour taste in my mouth. I don't really understand how the melancholy backing track could make this sound like any sort of celebration. If this was any other artist I would say there was valid criticism in this, worrying that he might be pushing himself in a box, but bc corpse has explained how and why he makes music I feel this doesn't really apply well here in a way. The “feeling pressured to make the same thing over and over” also falls under this category I think. The whole school sh00ter thing was wayy out of pocket and came in from left field, I don't think that was necessary at all. Also, it’s really repetitive and unsurprising when ppl’s reaction to “someone explaining their struggles with suicidal thoughts” is accusing them of glorifying such a heavy topic. The lack of compassion in society in general is just so genuinely isolating and depressing. People who are struggling deserve healthy outlets too, and making music is one of those for him. Acknowledging that this could be a personal vent for him and equating it to real murder / mass sh00tings was just crazy. It makes me think about the times you hyped him up for saying similar things in other songs, but then how quickly it switched on a dime is a little weird.

I felt exactly how Scru felt. I usually just hear songs that romanticize suicidality and depression and I dont really care that much, but this one in particular, because its so beautiful it actually brought back those feelings that I had a while ago, and my mind instantly went to what if someone is going through stuff right now or was more on edge than I was, then I feel like this song could definitely push some people over the edge because of how good it is, its very hard/weird to describe.

I understand what you mean, but here's my perspective as well. I feel like songs like this give people a feeling of hope that they're not alone in the darkness and that someone can at least relate to them. I believe people are more likely to commit suicide who don't have music that they can connect to, because they would feel more alone and stuck in their head.

I think it's concerning that your mind went this way while listening to this song when a lot of people sees it as a vent, or expressing feelings and not as "celebrating death", either theirs or someone elses. Music shouldn't be aimed to make people do something bad, that's for sure, but if you feel like that's the case for you, then I suggest seeking help, and I don't mean it in a disrespectful way, just genuenly concerned for you.

Sometimes ya wanna listen to something sad like this track then sometime you want some "She built like Misa Misa but bite like dimetresc, my bitche's bitch gon bring her bitch that shit a triple threat." I see your point and it is totally valid, but at the same time... I don't know, I just don't feel like artists should always be chasing the same goal, whatever that goal is, it is unique for each and every person why they make their art and what they put into it, and just because somebody can get it wrong and do something terrible... I don't know how I feel about it. History knows cases when terrible things were done under the impression of something most people would assume to be alright. There are one Ukrainian group quite popular in Russia called "MY" (WE) and one of their most popular songs is "Vozmozhno" (Possible) - here is some lyrics translated: "Sorry, I have to kill you since it's the only way I can make sure nothing between as will be possible ever again" and there was a drama around this song back in the days when a guy killed his girlfriend (and probably himself, I don't remember) and said he was under the impression of that song. It had a wide resonance, one of the members of this group later told in some interview that this changed him a lot, made more concern about what he sends into the world, but... to me it feels like it just broke him and trapped his artistic talent inside the concerns of what people can misinterpret in their songs... As far as I know, now the other member left the group and the other woman came but no they sing a bit different type of music, not so... brave(?) what it used to be

I feel like this song is so short, that if you try to take it line by line, you lose part of the song. You can focus in too much on the very dark implications of the first few lines. When I heard this song for the first time, I listened to it all the way through without pausing, and just let the song fully wash over me. I took away a message of "Till Death do us part" kind of song. Not to say it's not a dark song it still is, but I just find it's not fully about suicide, but the kind of relationship where if your S/O died, you would feel like going with them. Again, not a heathy or good mindset, but that's more of what I took away from this song, more so than just suicidal thoughts, and voicing the really bad depression thoughts out loud.

I respect the criticism Scru, it's very similar to how I feel about the song "Bullet" by Hollywood Undead. It's a bumpin' song but the song seemingly celebrates and encourages expediting expiration dates. These kinds of songs leave me very conflicted and imagining the worst when I think of: How would someone in their lowest listen to this? I don't blame the artist as they are just coping and making stuff like this might just be what stops them from actually going through with anything, I more blame the lack of government assistance for stuff like this. Mental Health medical care isn't cheap and someone at their lowest probably isn't financially equipped to get help. I envy our neighbors across the pond where they do have free health care and can go find the right therapist for themselves. Cause thats another thing, no 1 therapist can help anyone. More likely than not, someone going through something has to see multiple therapists, multiple psychiatrists, test different medications till they find what the combo, that helps them.

The concerns you have are valid in general, but when applied to this situation and talking about this song I think they’re kinda hypocritical. I don’t think this song is celebrating suicide, and to say thats what this is doing but turn around and have no criticisms on songs talking about guns, violence, murder, or people talking about those types of things just seems off to me. What makes those lyrics any less serious? “It’s just a song” is what people would normally say, but is this not also just a song? I’m confused on what you think the difference is. You say that someone already in a bad place could hear this and it be the catalyst to suicide, but couldn’t someone who’s not in their right state of mind hear any random rap song that you’ve praised in the past and it be the catalyst to other acts of violence? Those things are also “dark” and “messed up”, and other rappers or singers “regurgitating” /those/ words would have just as much responsibility if their art caused those things to happen, would they not? Are those artist not also irresponsible for saying those things? Where do you draw the line?

After listening to the end of your reaction, I think Corpse is an artist you still don't fully understand. Yes, he has written many songs which are explicit but I think when it comes to songs like this, which are so emotionally blatant, I think you don't see them for what they are. I think you don't see him for what he is as an artist. Corpse has always said he doesnt want to be some kind of idol or someone to look up to. I think he makes his songs for himself, for his emotional release, and taking songs that he makes in that light and trying to paint him in any other existence to fit what you think is unfair. He makes his music to be an outlit. Taking that outlit and manipulating it means nothing because it isn't true to it. You should never do that.

Something someone would listen to before they shoot up a school it's got to be one of the most dogshit takes I've heard quite some. Due to mental health suicidal thoughts play huge portion in his day today thoughts. Unless you're someone who is also had these thoughts going through your head regularly I could see why you might not understand. The guy's clearly talkin about hurting himself not other people.

I do see your point but as a person who’s autistic, and has Bpd the only way I can properly feel and grieve things is through music like this so think about that before saying it doesn’t help people as much as they think

his voice is just naturally deep. I have the same condition as him, the condition can deepen your voice a little but its more responsible for his gravely/raspyness.

A part of me thinks that he forces his deep voice, given the fact his voice has changed so much in just a few years, and the way he can go that high

Just letting you know! We are all able to change our pitch while singing if you train it! So someone with a deep voice is able to go higher, and someone with a high pitch voice is able to go lower. This isnt the first song Corpse has done this with, if you check songs like Agoraphobic he does backing vocals in a higher pitch, and he also does in the "void" loop. There's also other artists like Felix from Stray Kids who are able to change their pitch in a similar manner if you want more examples.

I honestly become bothered by interpretations that just feel wrong. It isnt celebrating suicide or anything of the sort its his emotions displayed and put on a track. That is what music should be imo. All in all corpse is talking about heartbreak, and almost sounding like what led to it. "One in the chamber" references himself as he adds at the end of the line. Hes always referring to the reason of the line one after another. Hes heartbroken and is down about it. "Ill keep one of your pictures so ill see you in hell" literally referring to having a picture of the person who damned you. I usually love the content but this feels completely biased.

i understand the point of he has a massive ginormous following so it can seem sorta irresponsible because someone else saw it and offed themselves that makes sense, BUT on the other hand he makes music for his own wellbeing and to get his own feelings out there to make himself happy, people help their sadness or depression WITH music and putting that out there, its nothing about telling anybody what to do or how to feel its all about himself and how HE feels only....but if i look at it from ur perspective i know what u mean...but again only to an extent

7:40 uh uh. I disagree. I'm older than you and most artists and fanbases, and I grew up in the "blame Marilyn Manson, - he inspired Columbine!" blame this artist or that one - for anything and everything era. before parental advisory stickers took over. My FAVORITE band of all time is silverchair & being a young depressed person (that had no idea what depression was) growing up, I REALLY loved a song they have called Suicidal Dream.... If I had committed, it wasn't going to be Daniel John's fault for writing that. He, just like corpse, are writing about their own demons. Which in turn, for me and I'd guess the vast majority, helps us process and be able to just ✨FEEL✨ our emotions in a safe way/space. As an artist yourself, I'm surprised by your take. And just because I disagree doesn't mean I don't respect you! 🖤🖤 Ps; if you happen to check out silverchair, I'd LOVE to see you react to emotion sickness. Pretty, pretty, please! lol

This feels confusing for me, i dont think scru is trying to sound like he is invalidating corpse here but it sorta feels like that to me, he is a big fan of corpse at the same time so i feel like he has to know by now how personal the music is to him. Idk, it sounds like scru is saying Corpse shoul keep some of his thoughts to himself so others arnt negatively effected or somethin. Equating it to a school shooter just feels wrong, even if that did happen and it did become a soundtrack to a shooting how does corpse have any hand in it?
