Pray about it. I have developed boundaries and an approach for dating that works for me. I've had people try to force me to incorporate a chaperone, never being utterly alone with a person of opposite gender. This however doesn't work for me due to my past, I need to see how the person I'm dating/getting to know will treat me when others aren't around (how's his integrity and character). I'm so glad I did it this way with someone I dated recently because in a couple months I saw a side of him not many of our friends were aware of and I ended things. Had we not had alone time, my heart would've invested more time, not knowing how unhealthy things would turn out to be. However, I wanted to be wise so our alone time was always outside, in public. This is what works for me, and God helped me understand this about myself. Pray, pray, pray.

Amen. I often wondered aboot this! Cos some people are so excellent at putting on a charming face when with a community, afraid to spill the beans about certain character traits...(like even if they are trivial cuz it might give em a nickname or something) sooo..how would you get past that if someone is always around??? Social intimacy & being vulnerable on your own in public makes total sense. The love you both have for Christ should help establish self control esp if youre courting with God in the middle anywayyy

My pastor gave some tips and i think they complemment this vídeo like talk about your life goals ( kids, dreams, ambitious, are they alike or not?), relationship with God (do you help each other get closer to the Lord? Does this person loves God before anyone and anything else? Does this person motivates you to read more the Bible, pray more and vice versa?) and finally ministry ( I am, in particular, someone who does a lot of missionary trips and i need my partner who loves that to and will go to crazy places, sleep with the stars above our heads and be fine with it, be happy because that's also his ministry)

Hey Justin and Emily, can you talk about emotional chastity and how to guard your heart while dating?
@jeremiahhernandez42796 жыл бұрын
I realized that we really need to include the community especially our trusted counselors because it is said that "Without counsel, plans go awry, But in the multitude of counselors they are established." Prov. 15:22 NKJV

I agree with everything, especially number 3. Having a Christian friend you trust (or couple) to see your relationship without your rose-colored glasses is great for perspective. I remember when we fell into sexual sin, I sought advise from 4 sets or people: my sister who was single, my friend who was married for 1 year, my sister who was married for 4 years and my friend who was married for 10+ years. Now these are people who I trusted with my life not some random people who wouldn't give me Bible based answers. Even my recently divorced friend gave me advice. It was so helpful because I wasn't doing this by myself because I don't know everything! Great video!

I believe there is a difference between courting and dating. Courting is getting to know someone your interested in to see if there is a future for you guys together. Dating is getting closer to each other once you think you could marry each other.
@christopherjohansson30732 жыл бұрын
Dating and courtship has each of their different approach to marriage. Dating is mostly intimate and rarely leads up to a succesful marriage as you have already had a taste for one and another. Courtship is like preparing for a partnership with your future wife/husband and seeing it as a stable union together so you can build a healty family.

I think it is important when we are in friendships with the opposite gender to guard our hearts. I was recently friends with someone who indicated that he liked me and I was really praying about it, but suddenly he just got into a relationship with another girl. He really hurt me. I pray and ask that all brothers in Christ would be careful with how they treat their sisters--caring for their hearts and not leading them into false hope (if they aren't interested in a relationship). I know sisters in Christ should do the same but men are the pursuers in this area.

Well. I mean. Did you reciprocate those feelings?
@whitemakesright21772 жыл бұрын
Sounds like he asked to pursue a romantic relationship with him, you rebuffed him, so he moved on and found someone that reciprocated his feelings. Doesn't sound like he did anything wrong. Did you expect him to wait around for you to change your mind?

Outstanding post, this is the first video of yours that I've watched and I'm impressed. My two oldest boys courted and are now happily married with kiddos on the way, I'm gonna be a grandpa! The important thing is that is was God centered! Keep up the good work!

I agree going into a relationship with no intention to get to know the person is damaging to the other person and can make them feel unloved.

Good advice. There is a difference between courting and dating though. The definition of courting is to seek the affections of another with the hope of marriage. Whereas dating isn't intentional- it simply means to meet with another like- minded person and isn't necessarily exclusive. Within, the sphere of all of this it's also important to seek wisdom to assess if the person is a good steward of their time, talents, and finances. These things have such long term implications but are easily overlooked.

although culture has led us to believe that courtship and dating are somewhat synonymous, there are actually a lot of differently ordered priorities, that the sequence of events gives a different DNA structure to the process of committing to someone you intend to marry. Although language is not too important, I believe it is important to know that dating with intention is more than just not having sex until marriage and "finding" someone with similar values or virtues. Paul washer, Francis Chan, Allen Parr, and Fr Ripperger on KZbin and my local pastor have been very instrumental in my journey. I thank God for their knowledge I often listen to the videos more than once as many parts bring up different faults in my thinking, along with the illumination of scripture by the spirit of God. I pray for success and prosperity to all who are called to marriage and equally so to those called to singleness unto God! Thank you for this video, God bless you

I believe this video is mislabeled even though it has some good points. It does not actually address the difference between courtship and dating as the label would lead you to believe. It keeps everything vague and interchangeable. Courtship is very different than dating.

I actually feel sorry for some of you. I'm sure that some people when they actually get round to having sex with someone they will be so scared to go through with it because you're told it's a sin to fuck before marriage. I have a few friends who were raised in really religious households and their relationships with sex are awful, they're racked with guilt because of being told they're evil and full of sin just for having natural sexual desires!! Sex is not dirty and there is definitely no reason why you should have to wait to be married before you have it. Even when God fearing people finally get married they must have awful sex lives, sex is for pleasure also not just creating life. Sorry I just needed to put that out there
