Hi everybody and welcome to Simply Scuba, if you think through all of your life choices and add them all up would you have thought that all of those choices would have led to you watching a video about pockets? To the casual diver pockets are just pockets, they don’t think too much to them but thigh pockets have become a big deal and they’re a big consideration on certain bits of kit.
Some drysuit manufacturers are specifically noted on the quality of their pockets, because when you’re diving, it’s important to keep your stuff to hand and easily accessible. It’s not like going for a hike, you can’t just strap on a backpack with all your stuff in it, and break it out when you need something. You’re in a neutral buoyancy environment and you need to bring all sorts of gear down with you, but you don’t want it all hanging off D-Rings, because… say it with me; that’s a flappy snag hazard
So, when you’re looking for new gear it’s important to consider storage and where you’re going to put them because I’m not just going to talk about thigh pockets, I’ll mention some other storage options you have too.

I use Apeks Tech shorts. Pockets come with D-Rings and separators. One of the best things I ever bought for scuba diving. 10/10 would recommend.

Not a Simply-stocked brand but if interested OThree dry suits come with velcro or zip pockets, one or 2 pockets and mix and match as required. Ask and it can be done.

The Drysuit I ordered doesn't have any thigh pockets so I was going to buy attachable pockets to clip to my bcd but now I'm thinking of buying dive shorts to wear over my drysuit :) Cheaper and easier solution but I do plan on getting pockets added to the thighs at some point :)

For a Scubapro Hydros BCD pocket, would you go with the cargo, the ninja (rolls up when not in use) or one of each? Thanks.

Neither are very large. Ninja is good as a contingency for some you might find on the dive. The cargo pocket is a bit larger but I’ve,lost count how many times I forget to unclip it after a dive and end up attached to my bcd as I stride across the deck. I now use tech shorts with proper thigh pockets. Work better for me.
